Todays Project

Welp, the two new GSOs are here and installed. I threw both in the box and immediately set them to folding. Yes, both. I know, I know, I should have just tested on one for now considering my problems with the 8800GT but this is [H]ard|OCP right? Why not just get right down to business?

11% completed on GPU #0 and 10% complete on GPU #1.

I think I know what is going on with the 8800GT. I think the thermal management is seriously impaired as it would always seem to run at 100% fan even when idle and would not respond to speed changes from RivaTuner or other tools. The fans on these 9600GSOs are behaving properly.

The 9600GT/8800GT's fans are locked in the GPU's bios to 100%.
This can not be changed even with custom bios flash.
Your 8800GT fan is operating as it should.
 
Success!! The 2 x 9600GSOs just completed their first WUs so I guess the problem is with the 8800GT for some reason. What a bummer. However, I am glad to know it's not the motherboard. Thanks for listening to me work through this problem and also to those who offered input.

I'm now going to finish up the RC5-72 packets left over in the bucket from earlier testing and then move all this hardware into an Antec 300 case where I have a little more room and can actually put the covers on.

if anything with the 8800GT try using the 182.50 drivers and see what happens especially since it passes furmark after an hour.. they are the drivers ive been using since they came out.. have had nothing but problems with newer drivers.. but its possible you got a lemon if the older drivers dont help.. then its probably time to call XFX..
 
Will XFX do anything on an older card that I am not the original owner of?

I'll give the 182.50 drivers a try.

Yes they have a Double lifetime warranty.

Also some cards just dont fold, I had a 295 that would not fold under any circumstance, but it ran Furmark for days.

Only if it was registered by the first owner, and the second owner re-registers it.

The third owner gets none.
 
Thanks guys. I'm going to try 182.50 drivers but if that doesn't work, I will just keep it for OGR-27 and RC5-72 processing. It appears to work really well for that. I have 1 packet left in my bucket of RC5-72 from earlier testing and then I will try 182.50.
 
Well, 182.50 drivers did not work either. I think this is just one of those cards that refuses to fold.

Yeah, read back in the thread. :p I did quite a few packets today of RC5-72. Worked perfectly. I think I will just set this card aside for that project. Now I just need another motherboard, memory, and PSU. :D
