Here is my current Desktop, a dell E510. Got the entire setup for $778 Out the door. My problem is whether or not i should keep this computer or build a new one for the upcoming release of the Expansion for World of Warcraft. Of course, if i do keep this computer, i'll upgrade the video card and the Power supply ( already sitting and waiting, a 600 W PSU).

So one of two things could happen.
1. Keep current computer and just upgrade PSU and Videocard.
2. Give the computer to my dad ( but keep monitor =) ), get some cash back , and build an even greater computer ( blowing away hard earned cash ).

Any input would be greatly appreciated.!!!!!

-shoot some feedback for the price for the purchase of this Dell, was it worth it? ( i was suckered into upgrading the video card )

My first post on this forum, but certainly not my last.

I don't think you need to get a new computer. Your computer is more than enough to play WOW. Just upgrade the power supply and videocard. Save some money that way.

The wow expansion, as far as i know, does nothing more than add a character and unlock some maps. No need to upgrade.

semi OT.

you nuked the original DELL install...how easy was it to install XP Pro?

on some of our B1100's installing Pro (without integrated SP2) was a nightmare.

can you or anyone else clarify OT. In response to the difficulty of "nuking" and reinstalling Xp Pro, it was quite easy and straight foward. (I've reformatted previous comps. and friend's computer numerous times). By "nightmare," what do you mean?

Thanks for all the responses, appreciate it. As far as handling World of Warcraft, i know this particular system could easily handle it , but in terms of future games ( i play other FPS on and off ), i want to get ready, be ready. :)

Well, if you're looking to be ready for future games, it sounds like you would like to get a new system (how much will the old man give you for what you've currently got?). How ready do you want to be and how far into the future do you see a new machine taking you? if you're looking for at least the next couple years - I'd go with a dual core processor and 7900 GT/ GTX graphics. awesome cards that will be not too expensive should you choose to upgrade to SLI in 18 months/ 2 years and beyond.

my old man wouldn't give me too much, damn that man lol . But i was thinking the same thing except the dual processor
my ideal setup that would last me for awhile would be

550+ PSU
GTX 7900 ( a must )
gig or dual channel ram
the athlon 64 ( not sure, but relatively the quicker ones )
and every other computer component will be average to above average

and about money, it isn't much of an issue. I see it as an investment, a good investment.

But if this system seems like it could last for a few years considering the upgrades i will add ( video card and PSU ) then i think i'll just keep this system. Feedback and responses are more than appreciated!!
Your thoughts = influences.

Just because I love them, I say a new system :p Also gives the added benefit of overclocking ;)

If you did go for a new system, what would your budget be?

i would go beyond my budget if i had to. But roughly about
$200 processor
$450 video card
$100 mobo
$100 case
$70 psu
$100 ram
roughly 800? More or less.

with hard drive, optical drives and a few other niceties - your budget's probably closer to 1000, right?

what kind of cases are you looking at?

Just buy a nice video card, PSU, and maybe a soundcard and that computer will work for you for awhile longer.

I still say dual core makes sense if you're buying a new PC and thinking of it as an investement. Although I concede it may not add a ton right now, in the next year or two, more games and applications will come around to take advantage of dual core capabilities. esp with AMD you're not going to be paying that much more to go for the dual core.

$284 for 3800+

$297 for X2 3800+ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103562

Keep the Dell - add an X1600XT or X1800GTO and some memory. I would upgrade the/build a new PC in about a year or two.

He's already got a Dual Core. Keep what you have and add a nicer video card, PSU, and maybe some memory. Save that money for when an upgrade would make a bigger difference.

I've thought about it. I think im going to keep my current system. A video card i have in mind is probably a GTX model, and i'm not purchasing it anytime soon ( probably during mid summer to late ). As far as memory upgrades, i'll probably look into adding another gig or so. I have 1 question, assume i do purchase a GTX, will this system allow for the video card to run at its max potential?
I'll be running a 600 W PSU
