I was very disappointed with Fable II and the craptasticly short over priced DLC they offered.
There were many things lacking with the game especially in the so called Co-Op and player trading system or the lack there of.

I so did love Fable I the first was a great game..
I am torn should I buy the Fable III: Limited Collector's Edition or just rent the game from Blockbuster.

Meh :(

I'm planning on getting Fable III, but I enjoyed both of the previous games, despite both having their fair share of flaws. Since you didn't like the second maybe you should check out some in-depth reviews and user impressions, and see if the things that bothered you in the last one are now gone.

Wow, what a massive variance. You're not sure if you should only rent the game or go all out and buy the collector's edition? I have a cheapo video 94 down the street which allows me to rent a game for a $1/day, I'd rent it if I were in your situation.

Yeah, I hated the second as well, borrowed it from a friend and didn't get more than 10 hours into it before I just really was having no fun anymore. The first one, I absolutely loved - I'm hoping for some good things with the third.

I know I can google it, but what's the release date for 360 and PC?

I grabbed the limited edition, mostly because the trailers have been excellent, and it looks like you get some good stuff in it. :)

Oh, and you no longer share a screen for online co-op... which means you can actually play it now! lol

I can't wait for Fable 3, but I'm waiting for the PC version.

I never really considered Fable much of a multi-player game, so the poor implementation of Co-Op in Fable 2 wasn't that much of a loss to me. The thing I did like about Fable 2 were the ways the game world would change in response to certain choices you made during play. It was fantastic when it worked. I'm just hoping that in Fable 3 they've expanded it beyond the handful of instances they had in Fable 2, so that it's more of a truly dynamic game world.

Also, your poll is missing an option: "buy Fable 3, but not some ridiculous, price inflated 'collector's edition'".

I'm getting the CE, because I liked both 1 and II. I don't get why 2 is dogged on so much. I thought it was fun and easily had the BEST implementation of a dog in any game to date.

CE gives you a need dog breed, extra legendary weapon good against Balverines, etc and the physical things it comes with.

The co op in this one is better now, no tether to the players (just same region) and heroes instead of sidekicks. Even online marriage if that's your kick.

They also announced yesterday that the new copies of the game come with a DLC code that gives you some new outfit (Scottish style), another dog breed (Red Setter, those kinds of dogs you see in a lot of middle ages films, sitting under the dinner table), and some spell potions.

I had a 20$ amazon card so I figured it was well worth it to snag the CE, especially since most brick and mortar stores are sold out and only Amazon has some left.

I liked the ending in the second one...and the intro was excellent. Overall a 7.5 I would say, good but definitely not great. Hard to say what the 3rd will bring...

I liked the first and second. 3rd one sucks... so far.

Mayube it's because it's been a while since I've played Fable but holy crap is every thing super slow. You also no longer have much control over what you get. Now it's progression based. When you reach this part of the story you can learn these things, when you reach more, you get more.

You have to spend experience to get Dyes. DYES! Expressions, the ability to get a house!

If Peter Mlyneuz or whatever think this is a step forward, he must be facing the other way.

I dont get it? So you stole it and you are posting your review about how much you hate it?

fable 2 made me not want to waste time on fable 1. I'll be wasting time on FU2.

Damnit I bought the Fable 3 game played it for a week.
Fuck this game.. Now I wish I had bought Star Wars The Force Unleashed II

Fable 3 is a stinking pile of shit worse than Fable 2
Lionhead just continues to fail
It's nothing more than Fable 2.5 with less menus and options

Fable 1 was the shit it was a great game..
They had it right then they fucked it up twice.

To be fair, the menu system in both prior games was complete and utter shit. And the gameplay is pretty similar to 2, a bit more refined in some areas. Don't really see the problem with it. Then again I enjoyed Fable 2.

PS: TFU2 is a FAR worse game. It is fucking terrible. One of the worst games I've played all year.

Buy Fable III Limited Edition and also buy a regular copy. Store the LE away for about 20 years and just play with your regular copy.

I haven't played a fable since the first one. It was all hype, with none of the promised features implemented correctly. Fable is fail

While its true the game didn't reach anything near what was promised, why can't people just judge the game as it stands? I don't get why people judge games based on hype. Its pointless and only serves to diminished what might be an otherwise fun experience.

Force Unleashed 2 is a rental. Fable 3 is a decent game, but it does feel dumbed down compared to 2. I would never buy a LE/CE/whatever give us money for worthless crap -- that's a waste of money. Then again, I buy very, very few games at $60 now when there is so much available for less than half of that if you wait a bit and stay a few months behind. Hell you can pickup Assassin's Creed II and Alan Wake for $40 combined on Amazon right now. My backlog is huge. You want a good 360 game that recently came out? Check out Vanquished.

Peter Molyneux promises the world and delivers nothing. If he just made the game he promised fable wouldn't suck.

Yes, an acorn to a tree adds so much gameplay...

The only thing I wish fable had was a TRUE open world, like the early Project Ego screens showed, with the hero sitting under a tree on a hill overlooking a huge open valley.

If they can fix up the character interaction and make it more logical/meaningful and have a true open world, it'd be a nice step up.

Fable didn't suck. Sure it had its problems, but its the best RPG on the Xbox (if the Morrowind port wasn't ass that would've been a clear winner). Fable did a lot of things well and it had some really interesting ideas in it that were expanded on in 2. I actually own Fable twice, once on the Xbox and Lost Chapters on the PC. Its disappointing that it didn't have everything promised, but I'm able to completely distance myself from hype and expectations and judge a game based solely on what it offers.

Finished Fable 3 on Saturday, my impressions...

Good:
  • Better models, textures, and animations.
  • Excellent level design, very lush environments.
  • Player character actually speaks and interacts with NPCs.
  • Fluid combat.
  • Better attempt at a plot than the previous Fable games.
  • Intuitive semi-inventory system; I kinda dig the sanctuary.
  • Improved navigation over Fable 2.
  • Augment/upgrade system is pretty groovy; also like how weapons transform as you level.
  • Coop done properly! Two players aren't tethered together, hooray!
  • British "humour" in tact (e.g. Mourningwood *giggles*)

Bad:
  • Little variety! There are only pistols, rifles, swords, and hammers. Same, if not, less amount of outfits than Fable 2.
  • Leveling has been ruined. The "Road to Rule" is retarded, basically ensures that everyone's character is the same at certain points in the game. You unlock expressions and other basic functions (relative to Fable 2) by opening chests! OoooOoh! Chests!
  • Will is overpowered again. Hold B long enough and watch your enemies crumble. Enemies that are still standing after the initial blast are easily cut down, especially if you've used the shock spell in which case they're paralyzed.
  • Fetch quests suck, and there are dozens of them.
  • Where's Waldo quests suck. Thought finding Gargoyles in Fable 2 was annoying? Prepare to find them all over again (gnomes this time) AND 30 books.. AND 30 flowers.. AND 50 silver keys.. AND 4 gold keys. Not to mention the numerous chests (silver or otherwise) and dig/dive spots littered all over the place. I'm fucking tired of finding shit!
  • Your Hero can no longer please a crowd. Interact with only 1 villager at a time.. and why is it that the first "friendly" option for male villagers is DANCE. I don't want to ballroom dance with guys!
  • Hand holding system is lame and kinda weird. Okay, this guy wants to research Hobbes so I'll escort him, but why the hell am I holding a grown ass man's hand?!
  • Almost no inventory. You're only allowed to carry one kind of food, one type of health potion, then summon creature, and slow time potions.
  • Dog is more retarded than ever.
  • Difficulty.. is not in this game's vocabulary. Neither is "lose" or "fail." The franchise is in dire need of boss battles. PLEASE look to the Legend of Zelda franchise for ideas!!!!

All in all, it seems like the franchise is on a treadmill. They made some improvements but took a few huge steps backward. I still enjoyed the game more than Fable 2

Its a good kids game, I hate that its so easy and that there is no leveling. They should take a look at fps shooters, they add leveling and xp and the franchises explode in popularity. People want growth.

Two things Fable 4 needs more than anything: more technical battles and customization. Almost every baddie in the Fable games can be handled the same way: AoE will attack, then mashing X or Y. They need a robust combat system with checks and balances, enemy diversity, and proper boss battles and puzzles (eg. Legend of Zelda).

I'd also like to see more customization, something that allows players to specialize and fine tune their heroes. All the dyes, armor/clothing, and weapons in the game mean just about nothing if our heroes are all fundamentally the same. Fable 2 handled this part the best of the three. It allowed for a certain degree of specialization by combining weapons with the right augments and allowing players to spend XP on strength, will, or skill regardless of where they were in the game.

One day I hope to play a Fable game that's significantly more difficult than any of these three and play it with friends whose heroes are distinctively different from my own.
