Is there a timedemo being passed around that people are using to benchmark? Would be nice to get a generic one for everyone to use for accurate comparisons between systems.

I know Brent was suggesting in one thread that time demos and real gameplay benchmarks show very different results, so maybe just try normal run throughs?

Maybe because in a time demo Enemy AI, Physics and other CPU eating factors usually aren't run. If you do something using a timedemo, you're usually only running the graphics engine, which would be no different from running 3DMark.

While it may not be exactly like real gameplay it at least gives us benchmarkers something to argue about. Mostly it would be helpful to reflect tweaks which may help performance etc.

And yet another reason is that GTX's with the 81.85 drivers dont seem to be rendering shadows in timedemos.

Okey, I made Quake 4 demo about "no shadows" issue...

and I tooked some screenshot while playing demo...

EDIT! 7800GTX, 81.85 WHQL and Quak4 ("no shadows" issue in timedemo also happens w/o Quak4)

And anand says fraps isnt a good idea.

Probably because FRAPS uses system resources as well. It will be nice when game companies provide real true built-in benchamrking into their games.

And not everyone wantsa game to test their entiore system. Some want to see how their system can handle just the graphical part of the game.

was the console telling him the shadows were turned on, but still wasn't getting any shadow effects?
