On Monday my P2250 monitor died and last night one of my HD's decided to follow suit. I mostly only use this setup for gaming and I mostly play MMOs with a few FSP thrown in when I need a MMO break.

Question is, if I replace the HD with an SSD and get another 2nd monitor is it out of the question to hope to be playing on this PC for the next 2-3 years? I know it's difficult to guess what future gaming requirements might be but before all the issues I wasn't having any issue with performance in gaming.
 
I don't feel that 2-3 more years out of that is unreasonable. I am the type who keeps a CPU/motherboard for a long time, and upgrades the graphics card every year or two.

If that were my rig I'd slap an SSD in it and buy a new graphics card when the next gen comes out.
 
Thanks, that's pretty much what I was thinking. I know it's a first Gen i7 but with the OC on it I really don't feel that it's holding me back all that much with the type of games I play.

Ok, since I lost my Win7 disc/key (no idea where it is after my last move) do I go with Windows 8 or buy Windows 7 again?
 
That's completely up to you. People can list pros/cons all day long, but Win7 vs Win8 has become more personal preference than anything else.

There should be a trial for Win8 you can download and try.
 
I have to concur: New SSD and new GPU should still keep that system going for awhile. Though I'd see how much farther you can OC the CPU.
 
I run it at 4.0 during the cooler months.

Looks like SSDs have come down since I last looked at them. Will probably get either two 120s for OS and games and then get a larger HD for music, pictures, etc.
 
I recommend the Samsung 840 120GB or the Samsung 840 250GB. Or if you want a bit more space, slightly higher performance, and a tad better quality, then I recommend the Samsung 840 Pro 128GB or the Samsung 840 Pro 256GB.
 
I have two 840 Pros over-provisioned to ~80% in my server in RAID1. 1Gbps+ reads. I love them and have no regrets. I'm kind of itching for a Pro 512 or Evo 750 for my gaming rig.
