Well, I have decided it is time to build my first ocmputer, as my main computer is broken and I have a laptop, and my dad is letting me use his old desktop computer for the time.

So I have done a little bit of research, and these are that parts I have come up with. Any suggestions are appreciated, as well as if I am missing any thing.

Sunbeam IC-ZORRO-SVBK Black SECC ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
$43

GIGABYTE GA-965P-S3 Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard
$119

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz
$317

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB
$95

OCZ S.O.E 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800
$250

Antec True Power Trio TP3-650 ATX12V 650W
$120

NEC 18X DVD±R DVD Burner
$30

I've got another DVD reader drive and a 7-in-one drive that does floppies that I plan on putting in this computer, I also have some soundblaster sound card already if the motherboard sound isn't up to snuff.

Also if anyone can recommend a good heat sink for my CPU, I am looking to get one of those too. I won't be over clocking too seriously, but if I do a little, I don't want my computer to be too hot.

The video card. Well, I am sort of looking just for a card to hold me over until Crysis and other graphically intense games come out, and then I am looking to buy the top of the line DX10 card that is out then. So, what's the cheapest card that I can get by with for a while? I am looking at something like an x800 or so, though I don't know if I should go with an Nvidia or ATI, or what.

Not sure about that fan positioning and the lack of a top vent for the air to escape. I've never used a power supply and I only build PC for myself and only read up on it after I want to make a new one so I could be completely talking out my arse on this one.

If it needs a blowhole, I will probably just mod it. Though, I am considering upgrading that to a full sized tower.

As far as the video card, I am now looking at
eVGA 256-P2-N615-TX GeForce 7600GT

Can someone tell me if they think that power supply will be able to support my previosly stated hardware with the processor and memory over clocked, and later will probably hve something like a 8800GTX or better in it also?

This is a line straight off your page for your motherboard. Due to the socket 965p so you need to get RAM that is at 1.8v. I just did a build for a friend with that same motherboard and used this RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145590then after is posted I went into the BIOS and upped the volts to 1.9. The problem that you run into is 1.8v is all that the motherboard sends to the memory and some memory will not post at the voltage but I know our set of corsair did. Read in the reviews on newegg about that board and they go into detail.
Features This product does not support Win9X/ME
Notice: Only DDR2-800 memory supporting JEDEC approved 1.8V operation with timings of 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 is supported on Intel Desktop Boards based on Intel 965 Express Chipsets.

What is your exact budget?

Go with the 7600GT that you selected. My bro has one and he's able to play Battlefield 2 at high settings.

As for the motherboard, I say you go with this mobo for better overclocking results:

GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express - $144.99

Also, I recommend the Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 for a decent HSF.

Don't buy that Gigabyte board if you're planning to overclock. If you want Gigabyte motherboard, take at least P965 DS3 or DS4. Although for E6600 I'd suggest some 975X board, not P965. I'd recommend either P5W DH Deluxe or Intel Bad Axe 2. Both boards are great, and while BX2 overclocks tiny little better (although if you're not planning any high OC I wouldn't concern myself with that difference), P5W DH has better on board features and bundle. Take a look at them and decide which one you like more. You won't go wrong with either one.

If you want after market heatsink, take either Freezer 7 Pro or Scythe Ninja.

I would recommend you something like this:

E6600 or E6400
P5W DH Deluxe or Intel Bad Axe 2
2x1GB Super Talent CL4 800MHz
Freezer 7 Pro or Scythe Ninja
7600GT
320GB Barracuda, SATA II
Pioneer / NEC / LG DVD burner
Seasonic S12 430W / Seasonic S12 500W / Silverstone element 500W Plus / Corsair HX 520W
Antec Solo / Lian Li PC-7 PlusII / Silverstone Temjin TJ 02 / Silverstone Temjin TJ04 / Cooler Master Centurion 5

The S3 is a very good over clocker which can be seen from the forums and what I have from personal experience. Its also quite a bit cheaper the the boards that you listed. It is currently going for 109 on the egg.

My budget is $2k, but I don't want to spend that much so I will have enough to buy a good videocard when crysis comes out.

I plan to overclock my processor, but I am looking at reliability as my primary concern in a motherboard

For the power supply get this $120 500w Seasonic because it is a higher quality powersupply. Rest looks fine :)

I totally agree, always splurge on your PSU, you don't want to have bad power going into a great machine... Just make sure your PSU has good reviews in terms of reliability.

Yeah, when Crysis comes out you'll have a whole world of pain, don't worry... I wouldn't expect that game for a year, nor many other DX10 games. At that point 2GB of RAM will be considered below minimum...

The Corsair 520W is only $120 at the egg. Wow, they dropped the price on the S3... it was around $125 a couple days ago! lol. The link in Danny's post is to the Foxconn board, which is also a good choice for mild overclocking. At $110, the GA-965P-S3 is your best choice, imo. Also, at $130, the S12 EP that Bbq recommended is your best choice. As for the ram, I'll recommend the sticks I've been using in my latest builds for friends/fam:

$210 - G.SKILL 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2-800 F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ

They post fine at 1.8v on startup, and can reach 450Mhz (DDR2-900).
