Hi guys,

I have never built a computer but I'm tired of spending so much money on a pre built one and then it not live up to the hype...so I will try to build my own. So far this is what I have come up with, there are some things im working on though :)

Yeah I really want this Video Card cause it has a good warrenty and the step-up program and comes with crysis. But of course its out of stock on newegg...i dont know how long it will take to get back in stock though if it doesnt take long I would like to wait for this if not I'll have to find another one

I will not buy this one...but does anyone have any advice on what the best one to but would be. I would like a cheap one but I will spend a little more than the one i have listed

With the case and the $155 MB it comes to just under $1200...
Any advice you guys can give would help me a ton in buying this...thanks :)
 
I'd get the MSI P35 Neo2 over the Platinum if you go that route. Same board for the most part, overclocking performance is equal. You can literally remove the Neo2 label and see Platinum underneath supposedly, so basically the Neo2 is a Platinum with a redesigned and just as good heatpipe setup and some features like firewire removed. About 40 bucks cheaper though so it's a decent deal.

Consider also the Asus P5K line and the Abit IP35 line depending on your needs.

The tuniq is fine, you can also consider the thermalright Ultima-90 + a good quality 92mm or 120mm fan, as it has similar cooling performance and is smaller and easier to deal with. Up to you though.

For cases, there's some reasonably priced ones like the CoolerMaster Centurion 534 or the RC-690. If you are willing to go up a bit there's things like the Antec P180/900. Mostly it depends on what you are looking for in a case. Size? Weight? Expandability? Noise? Cooling ability? Looks?
 
What do you need in a mobo? RAID? More than 4 SATA ports? Good overclocking? Legacy ports? Firewire? etc.

Keep looking around for an 8800GT. If you see that card anywhere in stock, just buy it.

Also, that wireless card is meant for laptops I believe. Hence why it doesn't come with any antennas. Or is it built in? Anyway if you have a Fry's nearby, they usually have a $10 Airlink Wireless PCI card on sale every few weeks or so. Works pretty well for me.

Cases are a personal choice item. So what may look good to you will look like crap to others. So jus keep looking for a case that you can live with. Though here are a few suggestions:

Heh, actually Danny there are 8800GT's in stock at Newegg like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130303. I think he wanted that particular one though I guess cause it comes with crysis instead of quake wars though. Their model numbers are slightly different also, the Quake War one is 512-P3-N802-A1 while the Crysis one is 512-P3-N802-A3. No idea if the model is different in terms of performance/cooling or anything like that though.
 
Thanks for your comments...I think the CPU, HD, RAM, PSU and Video card (I just have to find the right place to get it) are set...I dropped the wireless card and the CD Drive I'm not sure yet...So its really the MB, Case and the cooling fan I'm stuck on...

I can deal with no Raid and only 4 SATA ports...I think the rest is just basic...but i also looked at the board on newegg and it under CPU Type it did not list Quad Core...which is what I'm getting so im kinda worried...I basically need one thats around $100-150 that will support all the parts I'm buying

I'll prob drop the wireless and just pick up something close to home then...

So you would recommend this as my cooling fan then:

Looks are not that important to me...like my MB I just want a case that will fit and be compatible with all my parts...id be nice if it didnt overheat though :D

Didn't notice the CD drive. Ditch it and go with an SATA DVD burner. No speed boost but it does allow for a much cleaner case. I recommend this one:

As for cases, I seriously recommend getting this case. It normally retails for $80 and it's a pretty good case. Best buy it now or you might miss out on a great deal:

I like the HD, I think I saw that before...

The case is nice too...actually if I bought it today which i cant :( then it would be only $20...if I order it I can still get it for $50 which is still a good price so I might pick that up

I'm trying to find the HSF on zipflyzoom or newegg but I cant find them...I would rather get something on those 2 sites since I am buying all my parts there; I would rather not have to pay the extra money for shipping on another website

I still didnt even see the Quad Core listed as an acceptable CPU...I'm still have trouble finding one

What are you talking about? The DS3L does support quad-core CPUs:

Newegg doesn't always have the exact info. Next time, check out the manufacturer page.

If you're limiting yourself to those two websites, then stay with the Tuniq Tower. The only reason why we recommended the Ultima 90 as that is would be easier to handle and install then the Tuniq. They cool roughly about the same so you're not losing anything performance wise.
 
If you want more USB rear ports, the rev2.0 of the DS3L is guaranteed at clubit.com.
