I just put in an order with Amazon for the LG 34UM95 and now I need to make sure I'm ready for it once I get it.
Current rig:
Intel Core i5-2500K CPU
Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H Intel Z77 ATX Motherboard
Corsair CMV8GX3M2A1333C9 2 x 4GB DDR3 1333 RAM
Gigabyte GV-R795WF3-3GD HD 7950 3GB PCI-E Video Card
Corsair 650TX V2 650W PSU
NZXT Source 210 Elite Black ATX Case
Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit OEM
On to the questions!
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Gaming (shooters and RPGs mostly) at max settings, movies, probably some light programming for work.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
My preference would be to keep it under $500 after taxes (I do have Amazon Prime), but if you make a convincing argument I can stretch it to $700 or $800 shipped. I want the best performance I can get but I don't want to spend money superfluously.
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
Cookeville, TN, US
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
Well that's the question I'm asking now isn't it?
I assume I will need to upgrade my video card (or crossfire another 7950?), but I'm not really up to speed on what is out right now. My 2500k is currently at stock speed (haven't had a need for anything faster), but I have an aftermarket HSF and it's ready to be OC'd whenever needed. I have no brand loyalty, I normally just get the best I can get at the time. I've used Intel, AMD, nvidia, ATI and have been happy either way.
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
See above. After all the necessary parts are bought if I have anything left over I'd like to upgrade my case. It's not too important right now, I just don't love the one I have. Anything not upgraded now will probably get an upgrade this winter or next spring once I've saved up some more spending money. My goal is to replace everything and eventually use my current rig as an HTPC/server. For now I just want to focus on getting the most out of the new screen.
6) Will you be overclocking?
If it is needed.
7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
3440x1440, 34inch (currently using a 40 inch 1080p tv until the screen comes in)
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
This weekend unless there is a reason to wait. I don't know when Amazon will get the screen in stock, but I'm always up for putting in some new parts.
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? UEFI? etc.
Whatever is needed. Crossfire/SLI is nice to have as an option.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
Yep, 64 bit Win 7
There you have it. Suggestions? Opinions? Off color insults about my parentage?
Edit: Whoops, wrong subforum. Will a mod kindly move this to General Hardware? Thanks!
