I'm going to be doing some cpu/mb swapping soon and need to get some thermal paste.

I've always used artic silver 5 in the past but I'm willing to bet there is something out there that is better.

Can anyone recommend some TIM? I'd like a tube that will allow me to mount 2 heatsinks to 2 cpus/mb

Arctic Cooling MX-2 to MX-4, Zalman STG2, IC Diamond 7 for starters. Great TIMs.
 
Not really. The best TIM is one that is properly applied. At most different brands are going to be a 1-2c difference up or down.

That sounds about right from what I hear. Basically unless you're particularly picky, just about any decent TIM will work, so go with what's affordable. The only caveat might be conductivity/capacitance.
 
My vote is for the Shin Etsu X23-7783D, but I'm biased because I'm sitting on 60 tubes of it.
 
X23 is the best, and at the price Noble is selling it for, I'd recommend a tube or ten. It's the best TIM available, as good as or better than ICD7, and only beaten by Indigo Extreme.
 
I use IC Diamond. It's more than just the fact it produces some of the lowest temps. It's very easy to apply and basically no real cure time. It lasts forever and doesn't burn off/degrade. Also I can get anyone who wants to try it a free sample if you post your before and after results out here.

Best TIMS temperature wise:
1) Indigo Extreme. Reflow is painful and has a lot of limitations in terms of the cooler you use.
2) Coolaboratory Liquid Metal Pro and Ultra. Perfect if you have flat surfaces (i.e Lapped) because it spreads very thin. Corrodes Aluminum though.
3) Shin Etsu X23 7783D. Thick paste difficult to spread. It is a couple of degrees hotter than the metal based pastes above.
4) IC Diamond. Much easier to use than the Shin Etsu. Slightly lower performance compared to the Shin Etsu (probably within statistical noise due to the installation). Best results in cases where you need a thick paste (rough or uneven surfaces) It is an abrasive.

Every other paste I have tried were a couple of degrees off if not more.
