Threads Open Mid Page

This may be an issue that has come up before but I thought I would ask and see if there is anything I can do to resolve this. I only notice it on these forums.

When I click on a thread I find from the main page or listed in it's sub-forum, I notice rather than going to page 1, I am always thrown to like page 17 or some random mid page. It's never the first or the last and I know its a thread I have never cached or visited before. Is there a reason for this? This happen to anyone else? I would have no idea what tags to search for to see if this has been discussed before and how to resolve it.

What exactly are you clicking on? Clicking on the thread title should always take you to the first thread. Clicking on the down arrow will take you to the point in the thread you last logged on at time-wise, and clicking on the right-pointing arrow will take you to last post.

Clicking on the "thread title" in the "last post column" from the main forum page, will always take you to the first unread post since your last visit, you can hover links for descriptions.

But he states that they are threads he has never opened before, so it should open to the first page, not random page 17.
