I'm new to the forum so let me know if I've missed something out that I was supposed to do or made this thread in the wrong section etc.

I'm currently trying to put together a PC and I just wanted to share what I've currently got.

Case - Coolermaster 690 III, Black, Steel/Plastic, 230x507x502 (WxHxD in mm), 2x USB 3, 2x USB2, Headphone & Mic

CPU - Intel Core i7 4790K, Haswell Refresh, Quad Core with Hyperthreading, 4GHz, 4.4GHz Turbo, 8MB Cache (Overclocked to 4.7GHz)

Motherboard - Asus Maximus VII Ranger, SLI, CrossFireX, 6 SATA 6Gbps, 1 PCI-E M.2, SATA RAID, ATX

CPU Coolers - 3XS Customised Corsair H100 hydro cooler with dual SP120L fans.

RAM - 16GB (2x8GB) Corsair Vengeance Pro, 2133MHz, CAS 11-11-11-27, 1.5V

Graphics Card - 4GB EVGA GTX 980 SC ACX 2.0, 1266MHz GPU, 2048 Cores, 7010MHz GDDR5

Power Supply - 1000W Corsair RM, Modular, Silent, 80PLUS Gold - 3 Way SLI

SSD: 250GB Samsung 840 EVO - 540MB/s Read, 520MB/s Write, 97K IOPS

System Driver - 2TB Seagate Barracuda, 7200rpm, 64MB Cache

Storage Drive - 2TB Western Digital Green, IntelliPower, 64MB Cache

Optical Drive - LG BH16NS40 - 16x Blu-ray / DVD Reader & Writer

Sound Card - Asus Xonar DX/XD, 7.1 Gaming Soundcard

I think that's pretty much everything. Let me know if I've missed something.

I don't have a great deal of knowledge when it comes to computers or specs but I've been trying to lean however there's still a few things above that I'm not really certain on..

Motherboard - Help.
CPU Coolers - I was told they weren't needed?
SSD - Same as the motherboard, help lol.
System/Storage Drives - Do I need both?
Sound Card - I was advised to go with something with 7.1 but again I have no real idea.

Others things I should probably mention:

16GB is never going to be used but I opted for that over 8GB because it wasn't that much extra £.

Could have gone with 750W for the power supply but again for the extra £ I thought I might aswell go for the 1000W.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
General web browsing, gaming and video recording/editing/uploading
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
£1500-£1800
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.

UK
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
I'm basing my build off a pre-built system on Scan but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post a link or not? I've mentioned everything I need in the OP.
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
None
6) Will you be overclocking?
The CPU will be overclocked to 4.7GHz.
7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
It's a BenQ 23", not sure about the resolution but I could probably find out.
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
I want it ordered by this week.
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? UEFI? etc.
I literally have no idea what any of the above is, sorry, but that's why I'm here. I was suggested to get something with SLI by a friend.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If so, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
Nope.

Which games do you want to play? At what level of visual quality?

Which programs are you using for video editing?

What's the priority for this build: video editing or gaming?

While we're waiting for you to answer our questions, I'll answer some of yours:

CPU Coolers - I was told they weren't needed?
A 3rd party CPU cooler isn't needed if you're not overclocking. Since you are overclocking, then yes you do need a 3rd party CPU cooler as the stock Intel CPU cooler is not good enough for heavy overclocking.

SSD - Same as the motherboard, help lol.
System/Storage Drives - Do I need both?
Yes you need both but I would not go with the Green drives. I would recommend the faster Seagate Barracuda ST3000DM001 3TB hard drive instead.

Sound Card - I was advised to go with something with 7.1 but again I have no real idea.
Do you actually have high-end 7.1 speakers?
Do you have high-end headphones?
Are you a big audio person who can tell the difference between low quality sound and high quality sound?

If your answer is no to all three, then no you don't need a separate sound card.

16GB is never going to be used but I opted for that over 8GB because it wasn't that much extra £.
You might be under-estimating your usage since video editing can take quite a lot of RAM.
Could have gone with 750W for the power supply but again for the extra £ I thought I might aswell go for the 1000W.
Two problems here:
1) You're severely over-estimating your power needs. As is, your system would run perfect off a good quality 550W PSU.
2) You went with a low quality 1000W PSU that's actually worse than some of the good quality 550W PSUs out there.

So I recommend getting the Seasonic X650 650W or Seasonic SS-660XP2 660W Modular PSUs. Both PSUs are significantly higher quality than the Corsair PSU you chose and gives you a bit of headroom for future upgrades.
