Hey guys Just wondering on thoughts of this build. I am a "hardcore gamer" if you will, play everything from sc2 wow crysis 2 anything pc really I game on a 23in 1920x1080 and a 42' 1080p tv for movies and games. And I am coming from an intel core2quad q9300,6gb ddr2 memory 667, geforce gtx 260. 640gb 7.2k sata hd bfg 650 watt psu.

I am just looking for opinions, I know a skimpped a bit on the case but i think everything else seems like good quality, but if anyone knows a better mobo hd memory or ram at the same price or less then I would definitely be interested in hearing about it. I like most bang for your buck lol

My goal is to get a new build with an OS under 1k.

You picked out two overpriced parts and one low-quality part.

Specifically, the RAM costs about $10 more than what we normally recommend for a 4GB dual-channel DDR3 memory kit. And that 750GB WD Black costs more than a 1TB Samsung F3, yet is no faster than the Samsung in sequential transfers.

The Raidmax case you did skimp on: It has only a single 80mm front fan for intake plus another 80mm fan firing from the left side of the case. Couple those with a single 120mm rear exhaust fan, and you have a potentially poorly balanced case cooling system: The case will act as a dust vacuum while delivering relatively poor cooling.
 
well if your trying to get a cheap case i think you can still pick up the hec blitz black steel edition i never had any temp problems cpu cooler pulled air from out side of the case same with the gpu's the case works well for under 40 shipped.

Again, not a good choice. you won't notice an iota of real world difference between DDR3 1333 and DDR3 1600 RAM. In addition, getting 2x2GB RAM will limit your RAM upgrades to 12GB of RAM rather than 16GB of RAM if you go with the RAM I recommended.

So in other words, no good reason to get that RAM at all.
 
Ah I see now that ram you recommended is great 1 stick!

Now to iron out the video card and psu.

Basically back in the day I had radeon x800xl and radeon x1950 pro but had problems(overheating) (artifacting etc) with both and since have gone to a 9800gt and gtx 260 and had no problems been great. So that's where I went to the Nvidia route and it seems that the better than the price of a 560ti costs a substantial amount higher. Now the PSU do you think that could handle a gtx 480? im up to 1075 with that card in the basket which is doable but i really cant go higher lol

Ok, my question to you is this: Is the higher reliability, in your experience anyway, worth a significantly lower price to performance ratio?

Either the Corsair or Antec 650W PSU would be enough for a GTX 480? But why look at the GTX 480?
 
your right the 6950 seems to be the most bang for your buck card out atm. Looks like its time for me to do some research on them :)
 
Thanks again for all the advice guys, I went ahead and ordered the rig today and I'm hoping to get it all set by the weekend or next week. Changed a few things here and there

I think this rig will be sufficient for time to come, later down the line ide like to add a cheap card reader and perhaps an aftermarket cooler cpu although I dont think I will be overclocking the i5 very high, just something stable with the stock cooler.

It should be sweet compared to this q9300 and gtx 260 thats aging :)

While the 6950 seems like a solid card, unfortunately I have had trouble with a few ati cards and no problems with my last 2 nvidia (9800gt-gtx 260) So i went with the nvidia route. Also seemed like a good card paired with the gigabyte motherboard.
