This is my first time posting a thread so be nice pls =)

ive seen a lot of the oblivion threads being posted and the comments about them. Here are my thoughts on power leveling: 1) When the people say it gets much harder to get throught the game on a medium level like 10-25, and im not going to lie, its true, it gets ddifficult. 2) While this is true, its also true that once you get past 25, the game makes u seem invincible. 3) So, i try to power level as much as possibele. when i do this, my minor skills get left in the dust, leaving most of them at 5-10, but my major skills all in thier 90's. 4)So in my experience, focus on your major skills and increase your 2 major attributes as much as possible. By using this i got to level 44 in 25 hours of gameplay.

So wat r ur thoughts on this strategy and what are some of your?

I stopped playing as soon as I found out rats level along with you. (Along with everything else in the game)

i've been trying to resell my copy of Oblivion since the day I bought it... after about 1 hour of playing I realized how much I hated it. Still haven't managed to sell it.

Yeah I thought the game was too easy. You get a lot of powerful weapons and armor and the enemies do get upgraded but not as much as you do. Keep in mind that I have not played the expansion and I really dislike Oblivion.

Oblivion was a great game. One of my favorites from the last 5-6 years, and my favorite RPG since Baldur's Gate and Daggerfall.
The world levels around you, so it's definitely a plus to up your primary stats as soon as you can. Often times if you go for the minor ones, you might find combat to be pretty difficult with the enemies all being your level and combat oriented.
A lot of the sneaking powers and invisibility powers can be insanely powerful and virtually unbalanced. If anything, I used those a ton in the storyline levels.
I might have to play Oblivion again. I forgot how much fun I had with it. I think both me and my wife lost a month or two of our lives because of that game.

If you play Oblivion again get the Obscuro's Oblivion Overhaul mod as that stops the world from leveling up with you. That's the one aspect of Oblivion that many people didn't like. In an RPG you are meant to make your character more powerful with stats, weapons, armor etc. but there is not much point to it if the enemies just level up with you and become harder as you gain better abilities.

oops, just realized you guys can't get the mod I talked about because you are using the console version. Forgot what forum I was in for a moment. Well, my recommendation is to get the PC version of Oblivion because it really is a good RPG with the mod I mentioned.

I tried the 360 version and hated it because the combat was so poor using a gamepad. It plays much better on a PC with mouse and keyboard.

Oblivions level system is complete and utter garbage and the worst thing about an otherwise great game. Just cheat when you feel like you want to advance the weapon and armor selection. I feel sorry for the 360 owners, cheating totally saved the game for me.

I really hope Fallout doesnt have the same ridiculous leveling system where enemies level with you and you are not allowed to find or buy the better weapons/armor. Theres nothing more satisfying that going through an entire dungeon at level 10 just to find a chest at the end with 25 gold and some thread.

Great game. I just had fun never bothered to power level.

They don't. Rats and Mudcrabs are always level one.

Not true. Certain creatures and NPCs do not level, mudcrabs and rats for instance. Then there are creatures and NPCs that do level, but have level caps.

You can try cracking open the Elderscrolls Construction Set to check which creatures/NPCs level, by how much, what's their stating level, and their cap.

I have to side with Bethesda on Oblivion's leveling system. They had to make a call on how they want to challenge the player. Many of us found that Morrowind became child's play after maybe level 20, perhaps sooner for a power leveler. Bethesda wanted to keep the player challenged and interested so I agree with them in that regard. The execution however, far from perfect. The bandits, for instance, that level up with you is just ridiculous. "Gold, or your life!" and they have glass/deadric armor? Nonesense. Also how they phase out the early creatures and replace them with tougher opponents later, it's just lame. So in vanilla Oblivion, it's a decent concept, but under developed with ho-hum execution.

I'm using Martigen's Monster Mod and Fransesco's Creatures/Items then tweaked them myself to strike a balance between static and dynamic leveled creatures/NPCs. The result: I still get a challenging game from start to finish, but a blend of early/mid/late game enemies to fight. I have an obvious advantage over enemies and creatures when I'm leveling up, but still have "oh shit" moments when encountering later creatures.

Oblivion is one of the greatest games ever made. The biggest thing you just have to get used to is maxing out your modifiers for your skills, and trying to always get 3 +5s.

I played through as an assassin style character. I loved that I could one shot an ogre with a sneak + poison arrow.

I've read that Fallout3 won't have the same leveling system as they heard our complaints but they have also taken into account play balance so it won't be too easy either.

I didn't care for Oblivion. I don't like games where you are a walking god, being able to have mage, warrior, priest and rogue powers all wrapped up into one. I prefer class based games.

But that's one of the great things about Oblivion, you can play through how you want.
Want to be a potion chugging barbarian? Done. A spell throwing wanderer? That too. You can be as limited or as free as you want.

I had a hard time getting started, but once I bought the Frostcrag Spire addon, I had a place to stockpile all my items and then it got a lot easier.

Not really a strategy, but it helped me. :)
