Ok so we are pretty sure that the new 420 will spot 12 pipes right?
And a refresh of it(423) will have 16 pipes(possibly)

so if this all remains true(above) then is it possible to unlock to other 4 pipes on the 420?

Just like some were able to do with the certain 9500 boards

?!?!?!interesting stuff...someone in the know please comment on what it would take to do so

where did you get the pipe info for the 420/423??? I thought the only known difference between the two was that the 420 is agp and the 423 is naturally pci express without a bridge from agp to pci express

There's some speculation for ya.

So, according to that rumor the NV40 will be a 8x2 and the ATI will be a 12x1, right?
 
The freakin' card hasn't been released yet and you want to overclock it already!?

You people are really something, ati isn't like amd where you need to overclock it to actually get some performance.;)

im still confused as to how this relates to the rest of the thread. Flaming = mean.

and from reading your post ofr the 4th time and what everyone else has said i see no mention of overclocking.

Now as for the Vcards since no one yet knows we cant really tell, and as far as I know the 420 and the 423 are the same but on Different busses, AGP/PCI-E

If that is true, how would the PCI-E based card (R423) be faster than the AGP based one? Or would it be much faster?

You'd have to read up on the advantages of PCI-E over APG other then the bandwidth being double, I think Brent knows a fair bit about it :) I dont though :p

Performance wise there's no real benefit. The R423 will most likely be a refresh on top of being PCI-E.
 
I herd that the R450, featuring a 21.2 pixel pipeline will own all you nvidia lovers.

Speculation seems to be the crack of the forums. Every junky is like OMG will this card have 5 psudeo texofloppymaker thingies, vs the other cards assinine matrixpoopermagig.

Lets wait until both piece of hardware are out for public consumption, and THEN start talking about relative performance, etc.

And all that bandwidth will mean next to nothing, seeing that nothing even fully taxes the AGP 8x bus atm.
 
hmmm maybe you didnt see the fact that I wrote, OTHER then bandwidth idont know :) but Brent seems to indicate that there is more then just a bandwidth increase. Not sure what else it is, maybe its just faster period? maybe its less conversions done to get the card to work on AGP I got no idea:) can anyone say why PCI-E Is better then AGP?

And I told you that the OTHER benefits are not performance related.
 
My thoughts on it is simple if and when it comes out and it plants its boot right up nVIDIAS arse again then i will part with the$$$ for it:D
 
i'll be definitely looking into softmods for the r4xx as soon as the cards are out... till then everything is speculation and leads only to threads like this one
