Should I bite? Also, they say 1 slot open, so does anyone know how much this thing supports and if it can handle DDR2 667? Is there even that much difference between 533 and 667?

Wait till the weekend. Best Buy usually have better laptops with better specs for around $450. They usually have $450 laptops every weekend or so.

Acer al;ways has good deals, but it is a celeron, likely a low res 15' monitor and also their cheaper line, plastic case and such and low battery life.

Acer's current build quality is pretty poor, so I suggest you stay away from their notebooks. Check out Dell's Vostro 1400 and 1500 lines for great budget laptops.

That's not too bad...but any laptop for $500 or more should have 2GB of memory IMO.

This statement is true about 2 years ago (some Aspire 5000 laptops), not anymore (according to my experience).

I've used laptops based on Acer's current chassis design, and although they are slightly better than the old style, the build quality is still very poor compared to other manufacturers that make budget laptops like HP, Toshiba, and Dell.
