This can't be good..

Was playing a game of SC2 when I noticed one of my gpu temps (the one closer to the PSU) went from 55c to 77c almost instantly while the other card was chilling at 58c. I then noticed a faint burning smell and before I get to the chance to shut the game down thinking it was from my gfx card the computer shuts down and I hear this clicking noise so I open up the case and hear that the clicking is coming from my psu and I can't even touch it due to how hot it was. Not an over exaderation or anything but if I was insanely hot. I tried cycling the switch on the back but everytime I went to power it back on the same clicking noise so I left it off for about an hour or so came back when it was cooled off and now it powers on fine. I am very closely monitoring my temps right now and not putting any major loads on it until I know this won't happen again. I also blew out the psu but not much dust came out. Anything like this happen to yall? Do PSU have temp fail safes?

Check to make sure the PSU fan is spinning. From the sounds of it, the PSU fan died and the overheat protection kicked in. Makes sense that when it cooled off it powered back on.

Depending on the fan, should be easy to replace.

PSUs will shut down if they get too hot or overloaded.

What PSU do you have?
What are the specs of your PC?
