Thinking VERY hard about getting an MX1000...

At the suggestion of a few board members here, I may be getting an MX1000, but first I have a few questions:

1) I've read in reviews that the middle mouse button is hard to push. So hard, in fact, that sometimes you will accidentally tilt the wheel instead, like this reviewer said:

Second, as mentioned before, the middle mouse button is way too difficult to click, often causing me to use the tilt function if I'm not careful. Why didn't they make the middle button soft, and the tilt more resistant? The mind boggles.
Does anyone else experience this?

2) I know I mentioned it before, but I have a REALLY shiny mouse pad. Is this mouse gauranteed to work with my shiny pad? I would like to use my current pad, as it has a lot of sentimental value to me.

3) How much latency is there? I am VERY picky about this, even the slightest lag is noticeable to me.

Any help is apprerciated guys, I've got $70 at stake here.

I have one and love it.

1- No problems with the middle button.
2- Not sure about your pad but I have had no problem on any surface I have tried. It should be better than a regular optical on any surface.
3- No latency at all, I was very suprised how fast it reacted at first.

The only thing I had to get used to was the extra weight and how fast the responce was. It only took me a few days.

$70 for a mouse....are you kidding me.

give me one of these and ill still tear it up in any game. personally i use a trackball. ive been looking up reviews on the mx1000 and i cant find anybody else having those problems, so i think your good to go on getting that thing.

edit: i just saw a thread in the hotdeals section you might want to check out...

I love my mx1000, jsut got it a few days ago, upgraded from teh mx700. It's accurate, never had it skip, works great in gaming and hte battery life is phenomenal. Mine came out of hte box with 2 boxes of charge on it, and I have yet needed to charge it despite leaving it on continuously since then.

Hey dudes, can one of you do me a favor? Could you try running your MX1000 on a mirror? See if it still works, and if at all possible play a game with the mouse on a mirror. I want to make absoloutely sure this is what I need before I buy it (I'm postponing a new video card for this, my 9600XT can hold out just a little longer).

comfortable, great battery life, no lag for me (in fps)...
two thumbs up!

i just bought my MX1000 couple days ago. the buttons feel great, i like the weight of it. I dont experience any lag BUT i do get curser jump. It seems randomly the curser will jump about 1/8" (on screen) for no reason. This is a common problem if you read the Logitech forums.

I would buy one, but I am waiting for the M1000 to be bundled with a keyboard...

I have none of the problems you listed, and I only notice lag when the battery gets REALLY low, right before it dies (which takes about 10 days of gaming and stuff.)

I tried the mirror, and, it worked, but it was kind of like using a dirty ball mouse, its possible, just not as easy as a normal mousepad.

Edit: But a mirror is nothing like a shiny mousepad..

If you play a lot of games, you may want to use this 3rd party program http://www.logigamer.com/

It allows you to create custom mouse button mappings for different profiles (games). I got it setup for a couple games i play & it works great. I wish Logi would incorporate something like this right into their sw package.

i've heard theres a major issue about when you pick the mouse up and place it back down, that the mouse actually lags for a second. very noticable in games. im sure you'll find more info somewhere else around the [H]

i still have no idea why anyone picks up their mouse especially while gaming. if you are having to pick up your mouse you might want to increase the sensitivity. i have never noticed any lag with my mx1000 but then again i really dont pick it up unless i am putting it into the charger or taking it out of the charger. excellent mouse all around IMO.

OMG K1llaB I love you man!!! I have been looking for something like this forever (if a week is forever:rolleyes: ) , thankkks so much :D

I have owned a MX1000. Im heavy FPS gamer and this is my take on it. Its a GREAT mouse, just good for gaming though. Maybe you guys just dont pick up the mouse, but i do and its a slight, very slight delay when putting the mouse back down.

Check this out too, i tried the MX registry hack with the MX1000. It did make a difference, but still wasnt quite there.

Again, its a awesome mouse.....wireless mouse is ALMOST there, just not quite there yet when it comes to gaming. VERY close though.

I returned my MX1000 and got a MX510....all i can say it WOW, its a great mouse. I even came from my old trusted MX500 and its a big difference to me.

Ive run mine on glass...a mirror..and my carpeted floor..never skips a beat..as far as middle button...i use mine for voice in several games..and its not a problem...there are ppl who dont like the mouse....and trash it hard...but i tend to find those are ppl who have used some of the older cordless mice(like myself)..and they were not very good in games...ie...lagg..and mouse accleration...this mouse is nothing like those..its light years ahead of any previous logitech mouse...buy it..if you dont like...return it...i bought the mx900 blue tooth for 100$..and brought it back the next day...it was junk ;)

Keyboard trays. There's barely room for a mouse pad, so I'm constantly picking up my mouse in BF1942. It was kinda lame to get used to after switching from a ball mouse to the MX500. But the precision is with optical is worth it. Next week I'm getting a decent desk that has room enough to just move that mousie all over the desk.

But a lot of people have hutches, little computer desks, etc. with keyboard trays that have little room to move the mouse. Hence... picking it up.

When I first got my MX1000, the preset buttons really sucked. It was annoying to go and set the back button as the keystroke "alt + left arrow" )and vice-versa for ffoward) for them to work in Firefox. Plus, the wheel button has to be manually programmed as "middle button" or else you won't be able to pan in programs such as AutoCAD and Streets and Trips, or even autoscroll correctly in FF and IE. After those stupid little things, I have to say, the MX 1000 is far superior to my old MX500, and a worthwile upgrade. As for gaming performance, it seemed to respond as fast as my old '500, you can't tell its wireless. I bought my '1000 at CompUSA (HORRIBLE SERVICE, I'll never shop there again) last week on sale for $70. Yeah yeah... $70 for a freeken mouse, oh well, its worth it

I got one, but never even hooked it up. I just didn't like the feel of the wheel. It just felt really loose to me. I like things to have more of a resistance. I keep going back to my MX300 that I've had ever since they came out. I've also try the MX510, nice mouse, but my fingers always stuck to the slick surface.

Well I never have picked my mouse up to any large degree. However I do have an MX1000 and I got a Supermat so that I have enough room to move around. You can pick it up as long as it's not more than about an 8th of an inch of the mousing surface. Which is what I do. So far it works pretty good. I've had mine since release day four months ago or so and it's been the best mouse I've ever owned.

All I do is play FPS's and some RTS's.

It's too heavy, a real brick!
IMHo nothing is better than my MX510 together with Icemat Black 2nd ed. Compared to this MX1000 sucks a*s!
wtf is with the "its to heavy" comments I see from alot of people...how much can it weigh?..12-14 oz. i mean cmon..lift some wieghts or something if you find it to heavy, lol

I bought an MX1000 and returned it. The issues I had where these:

It still has response lag, just like every wireless mouse. Yes it's very slight, but it's still there, just like the MX700 and Microsoft Intellimouse. You may not notice it... I did.

The issue about picking up the mouse to reposition that was mentioned above is correct. Actually, the problem I had more often (and this is where newer isn't always better) is that when I'd pick up the mouse slightly to move it the mouse would keep tracking even when lifted off the surface, making it hard to reposition without lifting it way off the surface. LOL, I know that sounds like a good thing, but in real usage situations it's annoying.

Really heavy mouse. If you're like me and don't "palm" the mouse but just grip it with your fingers you will probably find it starts to hurt your hand after several hours of usage.

I thought I would like the tilt wheel feature more than I did. It's not very good for gaming because as someone else pointed out, when you're madly pressing the middle mouse button during a firefight you'll more than likely tilt the wheel on accident when you press down and nothing will happen.

The battery life meter and long battery life is a plus though. Definately a plus. That was the main reason I decided to buy one originally, and I was hoping the laser sensor would make up for the response lag.

If you never notice response lag on wireless mice and the issues I describe above don't bother you, you'll probably love this mouse.

I've never noticed any response lag. Even though technically I can see that it would and should have some vs. a wired mouse. However, I think it's negligable. Secondly the wieght in my opinion is a plus. It's not that heavy people. It's a mouse. Thirdly, the tilt wheel can be disabled for games. I don't use it in Windows, much less in games.

Finally when picking up my mouse to move it, as sometimes you will do so, you do not need to pick it up very far. I myself have never lifted it over an 8th of an inch off the mat. Therefore, it's still in the shortened tracking distance of the laser. The tracking issue when put down or lifted up is a problem yes. However it's probably not a flaw exactly as it's a factor of design. Remember this is the only laser mouse out there. It is more sensitive than optical mice and it's probably picking up movements that other mice wouldn't when setting it down or lifting it.

If you don't pick up your mouse, or don't lift it very high and your looking for a fast and accurate wireless mouse with good ergonomics look no futher than this mouse. It's near perfect. Everything about the original MX700 has been improved upon. From software, to battery life to accuracy and response time. The only issue is with users who pick their mice up. If you think about it carefully you'll realize that picking up your mouse real high isn't a good habbit for a gamer anyway.

That's my $.02.

If a mouse is too heavy, maybe more people should spend less time in front of a monitor & actually go to the gym & lift some weights.

i went from mx700 to mx1000. with a fUnc 1030 at the same time. I got several headshots a match in americas army in 2-3 days following. Mouse is superd accuracy, and no latency that i can detect.

no middle button probs either

not sure bout shinyness....ask for a demo at a local store and bring your mousepad

You pussies. If you're bitching about lifiting up a mouse, you have issues. The thing is like one pound, any real man should have no trouble moving this around. I could understand bitching if the mouse was like 20 pounds. I have an MX1000, and I love it. No lag, easy to move, great range, and best of all, it is the most comfortable mouse I have used, it fits my hand's shape perfectly.
