Thinking about trying WoW.

lol, sunken temple. 8 minutes to find a group followed by 3 hours of pain.

I am currently leveling a druid...the only old-world instance I ran was ZF, 3 times back to back to back. And then only because someone was advertising free runs as they were power leveling enchanting needed the mats from the items. 2 levels in ~40 minutes FTW.

ST - screw that...just quest. The 3 hours of pain in there is not worth the loot. Instead of instancing, I did a few of the quest lines I avoided in the past and all the ones that I know are easy.

It's better to have WoWed then to never have WoWed at all;)

I was addicted to wow for the first year and a half (got up to patchwerk in Nax40) and although it sucked up a lot of my life and I regret ever playing it, it was still the most fun I've ever had in gaming.

One of the advantages of playing too much WoW is getting heirloom loot. I started a rogue last night with 2 heirloom swords enchanted with lifesteal and 20% xp boost from the heirloom armor.

Got to level 10 in like an hour one-shotting mobs, then did some WSG. A level 19 bear druid has our flag turtled in their base, and at level 10 I was able to get the damage boost, sprint up to the flag room and kill him, returning the flag before his healers could react. Never felt so overpowered :p

Much love for heirloom loot. You don't even need to play too much to get it any more. I just do one daily random a day and I have like 600 stone keepers shards banked. You can't buy everything with those, but can get a decent selection. Champion seals are pretty easy to aquire too, especially after unlocking all of the quests.

I just STOPPED playing recently.

I am at a bit of a loss. I want to do some raiding, but my guild collapsed underneath me and I am sick of doing everything else.

The randoms were really fun, but after a while you can only run culling of strathholme so much before you want to punch bunnys.

I am trying DDO for a bit (just a few minutes a night) while I do other things. I wish I could do a server change for free, as my current server is low pop.

Anyone make the switch from casual quester to casual raider and live to tell the tale?

Pug raids are easy to get into if you have the gear, and you probably will due to how easy it is to gear up in 5mans. I came back after a year off 2 weeks ago and have already replaced all of my gear with t9 stuff.

As for finding a good guild that does casual raiding i cant say as i have always been a part of a very large and hardcore guild, that fortunately has alot of friends / ex hardcore players that still want to run a 10man or 25man once a week.

I only play 4 to 10 hours a week, usually closer to 4 side unless the gf is out of town. Most of that play time is on one night.

I find it fun to log in do a couple dailies, maybe a random, then join a raid, and log out afterward. I used to be a hardcore raider, then I was a hardcore player, but pugged everything on my horde toons. Then I took 9 months off.

Now I am casual player in an Alliance raiding guild with RL friends. (I've worked with 5 of the core raiders and met another 10 or so for beers.) I don't commit to anything, but anytime I am on and there is a raid, I go. In some ways it sucks as I really like raiding and we always make progression on nights I raid with them. (Their healers suck and are unorganized, I bring chain heals and we make stuff dead.) I am finding this pace much more enjoyable though. If the gf and I want to go out, we do. If I don't want to log in to raid, I don't. I don't feel the pressures of what hardcore raiding used to have.

I am also lucky because the realm I am on has a good pug raiding scene. I have pugged cleared ToC 10/25 and ICC 10/25. So if my guild isn't raiding and I am online and know I have the time to raid, I can usually find something going on.

This is exactly how I play. Best way to do it. I only have 1 80 though who can clear ICC10 content and my guild is trying to progress so that kind of sucks but if I can't join them I can't join them. No harm no foul.

The only old world instances really worth doing are SM and ZF.

While leveling, with heirloom gear, for sure.

Stocks or RFC (depending if ally or horde) are usually worth it if you can get someone to run you through. Pretty easy as usually there are folks hanging in SW or Org that will do it for shits and giggles.

Maybe in relation to upgrades but some of the best dungeons are old world and you're new to WoW, you're missing out if you skip them.

Deadmines was a blast when I used to play Alliance
LBRS and UBRS granted, are marathons, but any player needs to try them at least once as well as Strathholme (Live and Dead sides) and Scholomance.
Dire Maul, especially as a tribute run, was also fun.

I'll grant you that several of the mid-level dungeons weren't that great and can be skipped. Same with some of the outland stuff.

Deadmines is cool
The instance I hate and refused to ever run anyone through is Gnome... god I hated that place with a passion lol.

I'd run all instances at least once, so you know what they are and actually "explore" the game... otherwise you're simply rushing through and you're missing the best part of the game.

I quit after wotlk came out it made the game really boring for me. After I quitting wow though I find it really hard to enjoy any other games. You will always be comparing new games to wow. Kinda wish I never played wow

I've played WoW since about 6 months after release (with ~1 year off in mixed in there) and I have never ever completed a Gnomer run.

Other dungeons people have suggested, all the 55 - 60 dungeons were fun, but they are really pointless now. While leveling it isn't worth the time, the XP, or the loot. Outland greens will be better than anything that drops in these. Would like to see a couple of them updated.

I loved SM back in vanilla WoW, it was painfully hard to heal as a shaman. But it was always really fulfilling when we'd succeed.

The main problem with old world instances is most of them didn't have an exit, you'd have to run back through the instances or hearth. That to me was painfully annoying.

ST was really the only instance i've truly despised. Everything else i found entertaining.

I ran Wailing Caverns last night on a 15 rogue. At the start I had just hit 15, and near the end right before the final boss I hit 16, with heirloom 20% xp bonus. Everyone else leveled also, mostly people around level 20. So its possible to get some decent xp just running dungeons, not to mention all the loot (most of which I disenchanted).

In two different low-level random pugs last night, and both had healing-specced healers. Amazing ;)

you can easily level in dungeons as much as you could questing, if you're rested. Otherwise, quests win.

When rested, I usually just keep running randoms until the rested bonus is used up. Then I go and quest for an hour or two. At 64, I'm gaining almost a full level per session like this. Of course I only play every other day, so the rested bonus is usually at like 40-50%.

It's probably a good idea to have a couple characters in some kind of rotation to make sure they're always rested.
