Hi guys, so I know this seems stupid. but I am a littl ebit paranoid I have been hacked,

I am not what you would call a prime candidate, clean system, don't browse unsafe sites, etc etc. I run windows firewall and microsoft security essentials. I am behind a Billion Bipac 7800N modem router, however "Block WAN PING" and "Intrusion Detection" were not turned on, they are now.

Basically I was browsing reddit and chatting on facebook when all of a sudden, the typing line that comes up just kept going to the right, no matter ewhat i pressed it just kept sliding to the right and starting a new line, then i clicked a few different convo windows, then tried to close firefox, thinking it had just fucked up.

basically then everything was scrolling to the bottom and closing windows wasnt working and nothing i clicked wa sresponding, like it didnt register.

I then manage to try and shut down the computer, wasnt working,

I managed to right click and disable my network adapter (ethernet) and straight away everything started responding again and the computer shut down imedietly,

Restarted now and running a scan and everything is working perfectly...

any advice guys or thoughts? random software anomoly or have I been compromised?

PS I am not a noob and have average understanding of things so feel free to get a bit technical with me.

Try running additional scans with some of the programs recommended in the malware thread. (MBAM, Spybot, etc) Being a safe web user is important but more and more it's not just about the websites you goto. There's a risk of getting infected/attacked through ad networks that run on forums or hijacked links.

Either way, it could have just been a fluke. Run scans with software besides what you currently use just to double check.
 
There's about a 0% chance that what you are describing was a "hacking" incident. I'd say you either had a stuck key or some other fluke.

this is very, extremely, true. all sites should really be assumed to be unsafe untill proven otherwise, instead of the other way around that most people do it (assume its safe 'till something bad happens).

What is your reasoning for that?

Thanks guys, well I use adblock plus etc and don't use facebook games or aps. I understand that being online and going to sites has an inherent risk, I guess I was saying that I wouldn't consider my actions 'high risk', what made me think it was sus, is that as soon as the network connection was disabled, and cutting the theoretical hackers access, the computer unlocked.

I would assume that if a site that millions of people used daily had any overly big problems with hacking, etc, then it would come to light.
I am not saying facebook is safe, far from it, but I think it is more the ads (That I don't see) and the apps that make it unafe, using it for friends and chatting I wouldnt think opens you to much, ie. I am not the kind of person who clicks on a link "Spiderz GrOwing Under SKIN MUST SEE!!".
 
A majority of malware payloads are sent by poisoned Google searches. Google Images is now basically a cesspool of poisoned links :(

Regardless. What you are saying doesn't sound like a hack. It sounds like a USB driver issue. I've had it occassionally, where a mouse will just drift. Its for sure not being remotely controlled because there's no network connected to it. They are still machines, they do still fuck up.

If your scans come back good, I wouldn't worry about it.

Think about it... if you're intent on hacking someone, what's your motivation? Do you want to just move their cursor or would you rather deliver a payload that has some benefit. It's far more likely that what you are describing was not some furious hacker attempting to befuddle you, it's just a hardware or software glitch that caused your cursor to advance.

Like others have said, if you have scanned you system with no problems found, forget about it and go on with your day. If that's not an acceptable answer, don your foil cap and unplug your computer from the Internet.
 
sounds like a bug in your browser / adblock. What browser are you using?

lately with Chrome I've been having some weird issues... The current window will freeze sometimes, and I can't move my mouse outside of the chrome window at all. I end up having to close all chrome processes and then everything goes back to normal. the last few chrome builds have been buggy for me :\
 
Wireless keyboard, or KVM/USB hub involved between your computer and the keyboard?
