I couldn't leave you completely out of the blue. Yes a card we are not allowed to talk about. So you are looking at a red demon that sucks 75 Watts over PCI-Express, another 75 over the 6-pin power connector and if that isn't enough, it can pull another 150 Watts over that 8-pin connector.

~300 watts each for Crossfire, so 600 total, which was more than the full water cooled, stressed C2D / Sli 8800gtx system they had...

Please someone say they won't require that kind of power :eek:
 
Of course they don't need that much. Sure you could pull 15 amps through each and every single wall socket in your house. But you don't. Plus the 8-pin is place of a second 6-pin is only for overclocking. Since the 8-pin only adds extra commons I bet it's to reduce noise electrical noise by making sure you've got a really good ground connection.
