Am I loosing it, (loaded question I know); I'm working on my first water set-up, (read budget,) and I'm finding that the iConnect fittings that come standard with TT products don't exactly seem to be 1/4 ID /3/8 OD... am I just loosen my nut or what?

I've tried going to the hardware store and picking up some extra tubing, (I'm trying a few things different from the 'typical' setup,) and what I come back with, being labeled 1/4 - 3/8, ID/OD respectively and the ID matches up with the barbs as expected, but when trying to slide the nut over the tube it's a no fit, probably about a 1 mm to 2 mm to thick, (the tubing). EEh?!?

Same was found on compression fittings for T-connectors etc...

If I decide to stick with the iConnect stuff am I now locked into using TT Tubing, (or giving other tubing a shave before using it.)

Any help is appreciated,

I know that TT isn't a great WC setup but there has to be a couple out there that have a closet PC running on it right? ;)
 
I am confused, you talking about tubing ? its metric so yes stuff from the hardware store is not going to fit. Tt sells replacement tubing as well as a lot of online places. It just metric sized is all, not rare, but lowes is not going to have it. Good pet store with aquariums might, hobby shop maybe.

they use 2 sizes a 6.4mm ID (1/4) and a 9.5mm ID (3/8) but it is the wall thickness that is killing you, el-cheap PVC tubing has walls that are too thick.

Not sure which size you need but Tt replacement tubing is available from several online sellers. The 1/4 inch is available from Tt online store. The 3/8 is no longer listed !! :eek:

mcmaster.com tubing - metric lets you specify ID wall thickness etc. go wild. The have no problem doing a small order over the phone with a credit card, good people to deal with, fast processing, fast shipping, shipping not ripoff, dependable.

There's the bugger for me... craptastic! I figured when you see ID (1/4) and OD (3/8) (which is what a few review sites listed the TT tubing as), was universal, guess I didn't realize/factor in tube thickness varing across the board...

Basically what I'm trying to do is put in a "T" or "Y" union in there and a shutoff directly there after so I can create a drain and route it the way I want to.

I'm using the 1/4 (ID) on the set and I'm fairly happy with it, still on the fence about the 5 1/4 rez.... but I'm still thinking on that one. Thanks for the tip on McMaster; I've seen them/considered using them for a few other mods I had in mind just haven't yet gotten around to it; glad to see you think highly of them.

I'm considering swapping out the pump, (it doesn't seem to have a very high flow,) and some of the sites have mentioned life cycle problems with it; current set-up. I've been thinking of moving up to the P500 pump, seems to have mostly good reviews; have you had any experience with it?

I believe TT tubes have slightly thinner walls, well I'm using the newer kits that use 3/8" ID, I purchased other brand 3/8" ID and 1/2" OD and it fits the kit still.

If you're trying to buy more tubing just cut a small piece from your kit to use as a reference.

Sorry no. Mine uses the P400 pump which has held up well so far (about 12 hours a day average for last 16 months. )

I have looked at it, and the price/performance is attractive. I like the MCP355 but the Tt pump can be had for about 1/2 the price with careful shopping. My major question on the Tt pump that remains unanswered is that if it is Magnetic drive but it still seems well made and even if the MTBF is exagerated (I have no proof of that) it is still way longer than the MCP355. Not that MTBF really means much but there is just not enough I could find out about the Tt pump when I was looking at it.

In your position/setup, if not on a tight budget, I would strongly consider getting the Tt pump and keeping the old one as a backup/spare. That Tt block is a low restricion block make for high flow rates and moving the water through it faster will help. Not sure if you could really tell a big difference in performace but I think with the smaller tubing and single rad a little more pump pressure/flow would probally be the best bang for buck. That block is actually decent in an "old school - maze " sorta way. We have the same block and I am not even thinking bout blowing $50 for a new block, they tend to be the restricitve type nowadays and not really suited for the rest of our systems (round tube rad, low pressure/high volume pump,).

Due to lack of engineering information on Tt equipment the above is all conjecture/guessing on my part based on looking at the parts and how they are constructed.

Edit: just another comment, whatever is in the Tt coolant does not seem to cause any deposits etc, it does not hurt to have a drain but I have not need to touch mine other than to top it off with some distilled water.

Once I make the final decision I'll post back and let you know how things look/which direction I decided to go; as I mentioned before this is a work very much in progress, (all be it slow progress.) ;)

I still haven't decided if I want to install the WC setup before I finish the case, or if I want to finish the case first and do it all at once, (the warmest day it's been around here recently is about 20 F to 25 F which is less than conducive to painting the rest of the case; (the only paint booth I have access to is my unheated garage).

Just wanna mention i bought some tubbing for my THW from Homedepot.

THW? Sorry I'm not familar with that acronym. What size are you running? At this point it all hinges on the connectors I'm using, (the TT iConnect), which is what is causing me the sizing issues, the ID is spot on but the OD is what is throwing me.

I'm essentially trying to use items from HD, (extra tubing, compression fittings etc...) to create a dranage system with a shut-off etc...
