Thermalright FDB fan

The only reason I ask is that I heard that the TRUE's don't always have a flat base.

They don't, but even without a perfectly flat base it'll still blow away your Zalman in terms of performance.

haha, ya I bet. Hows the mounting system?

Also, keep in mind the TRUE that is in all the reviews that keeps up or beats out the Megahaem (depending on the review you read) are all going to be unlapped, can you get even better performance by lapping? Sure can, but it's still one of the top coolers without it.

The mounting system some people like to bitch about. Me? I really like it, it's simple and never had any trouble with it. YMMV.

You could buy it from CrazyPC with the fan, nicer fan mount, and bolt-thru kit with the option of lapping.

Dosen't the link I posted already include that?

Yes, so the one in the link cost more, but does have the option of it being lapped (for 20 extra bucks). I myself don't really see it being worth it unless you lap the CPU IHS also.

I didn't think the fan holder was included in your link but now that I look, I think it does.

Yep, definately does! That's a great price too!

I'd grab a different fan for the TRUE - this is what I used http://www.jab-tech.com/120mm-Panaflo-fan-M1BX-pr-3110.html . The TRUE has really tightly packed fins, and a 120x38mm fan (1.5x as thick as a normal 120mm fan) generates much more air pressure to push the air through those fins. It gave me better temps all around, and can be run at a much lower RPM while cooling the same as it's 25mm counterpart.

Really, interesting. I have a friend who put a Silverstone 120x38 fan on his TRUE aswell. But is it really neccesary for stock?

That's for you to decide :p. It's kind of like "is lapping necessary." To just run the CPU and maintain stable temps, god no. If you really want to get that last bit of heat off the CPU and keep temps as low as possible, then yes :).

I'll keep this in mind

Not in the least, the TRUE will have good temps even with the stock fan. The TRUE can benefit from a 38mm fan, but thicker is not always better, thicker will be louder but have a different tone profile (deeper in most cases), but Panaflo fans always had an annoying clicking sound when I used them undervolted, and had a fair amount of motor noise.

I'd stick with the stock fan. I have a TRUE with a push/pull configuration using two 1600 RPM Thermalright fans. The reviews I've seen rate the fan as being good to excellent both in air pressure and throughput.

It's a good fan for a good heatsink. You don't need a huge fan. You don't even want one, really. You'll have to do some dirty mod to get it on anyway. The included fan holder is slick...don't sweat the details.

the fan that comes with that cooler is an fdb fan (fdb = fluid dynamic bearing), which is patented and made by sony (they are the only ones who make fans of this type). it is equivalent to a scythe s-flex, which is one of the best fans out there in terms of noise AND pressure. while it does not have the best noise / pressure ratio, you will be hard pressed to find a fan that will be better than it without spending something like $20, which is not worth it.
