I used to have a x1900xtx and it behaved oddly in bf2. I did DC cleaner in safemode before installing the new gpu.

Framerate seemed normal but i got stuttering sometime when i changed directions. It is like a brief fps drop to 20 each time i turn around.

Did that happen because the card only has 16 pipelines? Never happened with the 7800 GTX 256mb

I also saw faint diagnol lines running across the screen. WTF was that? Is it the x1900xtx behaving weirdly with my LCD? When i put the nvidia card back in those symptoms were gone.

Right now, im in the process of getting rid of my 7900 GT sli setup because it sucks. Im thinking of just getting a single powerful card. Debating between the x1900xtx or the 7900 GTX.

Im willing to give the x1900xtx another chance but those issues made me return the card in the first place. Any idea about what caused the brief choppyness in bf2 and the wierd diagnol lines?

I bet the problem is you used driver cleaner. It's crap that cause more problems than it fixes.

Start again from a fresh windows install and you will see a different story.

i don't think so, i been using driver cleaner for some time not; with no problems whatsoever.

Usually i uninstall drivers via control panel, then run ati uninstall utility, then driver cleaner.
 
im still unsure which one to go with. I prefer nvidia's drivers but they cant do HDR +AA. For that reason, ATI is on my mind but im afraid that i will get jumpyness in bf2 and those faint lines across the screen
 
Only issues I've had with my X1900XT :
trueSpace 6 crashing (most people won't care about this - ts7 works fine anyway)
CCC (switched to old CP, could've gone for ATT instead)
Catalyst 6.4 (just use 6.3 which is also compatible with the Oblivion 'chuck' fix)
noise (it's not that bad, but oodles better since I installed the Maze4:D)

None of those are major problems. You must've got a dud. And from my visits to the nV sub-forum, the number of GTX cards going tits-up is worryingly high.
 
i get that problem to sometimes, but i've come to the conclusion that its not a hardware problem. I don't know exactly whats causing it, but if i restart my computer, its fine.
 
i haven't played BF2 for a while, but back then memory was king in BF2..

when i upgraded from 1Gb to 2Gb i saw all studdering dwindle to nothing when using the hi resolution textures and settings..

i don't know if this is the issue, but just my experience with BF2
 
I am sure that if you would have done a reformat you would not have had the issues. And if you did then you may have been having some dual core CPU issues. I has issues in BF2 with a 7800 GTX prior to my X1900XTX and it was related to having a Dual core CPU.

My recommendation:

Get the X1900XTX
Reformat
If you still have the problem go through the Dual core CPU game fix guide in the CPU section.

edit nevermind, you had a single core back then, so a reformat should fix it.
 
For uninstalling ATI driver I always use their ATI uninstaller tool. You can find it on their website.
