The R600 Rumors

Specs don't do much for me. Even the recent "(PS3/360) graphics core specs revealed!!!" just don't get me excited. Probably because if specs were the only thing that made video cards good, the 5800U would still be the reigning king of all cards.....

No... quasi 8 pipes... believe more akin to 4*2 and then in certain situations 8*0 (how they denote it, has to do with processing blacks - certainly no 8*1). 128-bit memory bus. It looked ok when anounced because 500 MHz and 8 pipes has a lot of fill-rate. Too bad it was only 8 pipes in the eyes of the marketting folk at nVidia. Just being a nitpicking geek by demystifying the cards... it really performs like it should. 6800GT could do 32*0 and they straigthened up on reporting the specs, or maybe they just didn't need to cheat to market ATi's number of pipes this time.

Specs are interesting. That said... I didn't even look at the link. If it was April fool's it might be funny. Radeon x1000.... whatever. :rolleyes:
 
As long as they're making things up they should have given it a 512 bit bus. And a 1.21 Gigawatt power consumption!

As for the 5800U, the specs were awesome at the time, and it actually wasn't that slow. The problem was the heat and the noise. I would know I own one, and you could cook an egg on it.

Of course not too long after the 5800U came out, the 9800 Pro came and put a stake in it.
 
Wow, we don't know the specs of cards coming out in a month but we think that rumours of a card more than a year away could be accurate. Damn this place is full of suckers. ATi probably doesn't even know what the final specs of R600 will be.
