I'm not waiting 5 years for everyone to realize The Outer Worlds 2 is another Obsidian classic—I'm giving it its flowers now

It's an obsidian classic alright, a classic flop, no need to overthink it. Truly good games are recognized as such without some pretend gamer trying to make them happen. In fact good games are recognized as such even when the games journalists are busy trying to convince you of the opposite.

Not only do journalists complain it isn't, but you see memes of it constantly mentioned. Elden Ring was a bad game because of the UI. Skyrim had arrow to the knee and many other memes, and Elden Ring has Maidenless.

i liked the outer worlds 2 :(
Which parts? Games I've played that were Ok I can't remember a single memorable part. Games that were great you remember a lot of parts.

Don't worry about what anyone else thinks of it ;)?
Yeah, I just play games I like and really don't give a crap what other people think of them. If I buy one that I don't end up liking I just move on to the next one. Not worth the stress to spend my time complaining about games I don't want to play.

taking the Archive was fun

i liked being able to make certain decisions and some of the companions were good

the general game was good for me

kept me busy

Heavy decisions? All of the factions in all of Obsidian's games = flat and intentionally flawed. You're basically just flipping a coin when you're stuck in their choose A or choose B scenarios.

Yeah, there is a lot of choosing between different flavors of crap. I still like Obsidian and wish they kept working more on their avowed/pillars world. TOW1 was alright but the world setting just didn't interest me. There is nothing inspiring about favoring one crappy corpo over another, it's not a world where I want to explore more and be fascinated by.

Any examples of games (with a main story) you think have them and go beyond A or B, or A, B, or C?

Baldur's Gate 3 would definitely be one. Beyond that there aren't many, and that intentional. It isn't easy to do it without dedicated a lot of time and resources to essentially making multiple games.
The thing with TOW's choices isn't necessarily that the choices are just A or B. It's that they force you to do it constantly and they act like everything matters, but it doesn't.
The choices are all intentionally bad so they aren't obviously right/wrong but they all lead you to the exact same place. The only real difference in anything is a byline in the ending if you make it that far.
It's basically this:

It definitely isn't a game to play if you want to be the knight in shining armor who is always going to do the right thing. It is a game of muddling your way through the shit picking the best of a bunch of shitty options. I prefer games where you can make a decent moralistic choice but I can still find enjoyment in games that are shades of grey.

I believe that adventure is called real life.

Not really. In real life 99% of us have sweet bugger all ability to change the outcome of anything. No matter what I decide the machine is going to trundle on. In the video game I can blow the buggers up that I don't like even if that favours a group I still don't like, but dislike less.

One of the funniest things about TOW2 is that the single most powerful tactic is just to kill anything and everything at the drop of a hat. You can bypass most conversations entirely and choose "Fuck all that noise, let's fight." Fighting, killing, and looting everything ensures that you're going to get all the good drops and the most possible XP, too. You then use all that XP to boost your gun/melee stats to further compound it. You end up reaching max level before even reaching the last 2 planets and are dominating the galaxy as a violent meathead who still has more character depth than any of the factions. Literally the only downside of that is that you do have to be good enough at shooters to pull it off.

Nah, I went melee for the most part. Didn't even know there was anything like that. I found a hammer that used shotgun shells to boost damage fairly early in the game. I used that thing all the way to the very end and never did encounter anything better. There were similar melee weapons that didn't use ammo, but they didn't hit as hard in spite of their stats. I basically ran around smashing everything over the head.

I understand the shades of grey dilemmas and can appreciate that, but think of it this way: I want to choose those dilemmas under a blue sky and not under a gray cloud.

why not

what’s so bad about the gray clouds

I don't recall the name of it, but I ended up using the gun that uses all types of ammunition. That thing was fun. Never knew which bullets were coming up next. Of course, you burn through your rockets pretty fast but its a fun gun. No reload just keep spraying like a lunatic.

Haha, nice

The different weapons in the Outer Worlds 2 were a surprising highlight. The shooting/combat elements were extremely solid, and there are a lot of different weapons to choose from. I found myself cycling through different guns based upon my ammo supplies and almost everything felt good and worked well. The different legendary versions often had fun effects that added additional depth. For all the talk from Obsidian and a lot of reviewers about your choices mattering and this and that, the combat was the best thing about the game. The map design would probably be second.

Outer Worlds was never a game you should expect a brilliant story or brilliant dialogue from. It was a shooter with a humorously dark/dystopian universe. The fun was in the different guns and different gear to play with and not really be bent out of shape about whether or not stuff made sense story wise.

That's fair. Not what I'm looking for but it was alright for that. Had some decent fun with gunplay.

Maybe their personality is flat because they want the viewer to take their characters seriously so when you make a choice in game it's like making a bad morally wrong choice. The only game that has come close to that is Bioshock for me.

One thing about TOW1 I appreciated was that you can pick any dialogue option without fear of burning bridges and missing out in content or quests (I'm not not talking about choices and consequences). That is, all banter options are fair game. You can basically say any sarcastic remark and not worry about missing a quest because they got offended and hate you forever.

The first real choice in the game is to where to redirect the power and it could affect Parvati for the rest of the game as well as some of the other quests in Edgewater, but I do see your point about the banter.
