The Last of Us Part II

Are there any visual improvements over the first one? I assume not, since the first was already remastered, so they're probably about the same?

Seems the same, maybe some animation improvements etc as was the case with Part II.

I was expecting stutter central going by the DF video but I now firmly believe all of these issues are Ryzen related lol. I recorded a long video of my first run of the game early sections and there is zero traversal/shader of hitching of the frametime, it's smooth and really good for the most part with the usual expected CPU utilisation quirks like E cores maxing out in parts when they should not be.

The 12700KF and DDR4 3600 are not being a bottleneck I'd say at least settings and 4K, even DLAA runs at 60fps+ but really you want DLSS 4 Preset K and use DLSS Performance for 100-120fps+ and beyond at all times without needing frame gen.

I'm impressed so far.

I mean I got a 9800x3d and 4090 and in 4k is smooth as hell with DLAA maxed out. I guess I was shocked because I expected problems on launch like the first game.

I will say the visuals are a big improvement over the first game on PC. I never played the 2nd on console.

Runs very smoothly on 5800X3D and 4080, 3840x1600 max settings DLSS Quality.

There are surprisingly lot of useful options, like the ability to turn off DOF for gameplay but not for cutscenes, FOV slider, Motion blur can be turned off, as well as chromatic aberration. You can even adjust speaker azimuths, to match your setup.

We might finally have a good port on our hands. The Mass Effect style options util was a blast from the past. Although it feels a bit redundant as all those settings can be adjusted in game as well.

No problems for me on a 7800x3D/4090 at max settings (4K, DLAA + frame gen).

The first game, a few months after release, was terrific. This one’s terrific right out of the gate.

yeah I was shocked how well it was running at 4k with my 4090. I honestly expect issues with this port lol.

Performance is good, but I've been getting a lot of crashes with this. DXGI_DEVICE_HUNG or something similar. Sounds like I'm not the only one but I'm not sure what the fix is.

EDIT: Did a driver reinstall via the nVidia app and it seems more stable now.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered PC- Hotfix 1.0

-Mouse input changes to improve detection of subtle aiming movements.
-The Upscale Sharpness slider now gives improved control over sharpening.
-Fixed a crash that could occur when playing at 1440p resolutions with Volumetric Quality set to Medium.
-Fixed a crash that could occur while erratically moving the mouse in the menu before starting a new game.

Unfortunately the crashes have come back even with the hotfix. :(

I've tried all the "fixes" (reinstalling drivers, disabling Nvidia reflex, etc.). Doesn't seem to fix anything.

Patch 1.1 Release Notes

We are aware of player reports of autosave issues and are actively working on a fix. Our investigation shows that issues can occur when OneDrive or similar cloud services block the save file from being written. As a workaround, we suggest that you pause OneDrive while playing the game: Right-click the OneDrive icon in the Windows taskbar, click the gear icon and Pause sync

-Performance improvements to address long stalls that could occur in Downtown Seattle.
-Fixed a crash that could occur when using Steam Input.
-Sliders in the Display menu now adjust in full increments, regardless of the input method used.
-Friends Top Scores are now displayed on the No Return Daily Run Leaderboard.
-Resolved an issue when watching the Grounded II Documentary that caused audio and video to not be in sync.
-Various fixes for visual bugs in ultrawide cinematics.
-Various crash fixes and stability improvements.
-Various UI bug fixes

Game seems to generally run pretty good for me with a 4080 and 5800x3d and max settings. Really appreciate no more 30 minute shader comp like the prior PC naughty dog games. I'm not noticing any stuttering as some have reported or stability issues, although I started playing with this most recent patch. Generally, seems to be running better compared to the last game IMO.

Started playing this and my GPU is stuck at 2500 MHz but performance is fine. About 140-220 fps (very inconsistent) but can't feel the diff. This is maxed out with FG. How to fix?

Are you sure you’re not just CPU bound and the GPU is down clocking because it’s not even fully utilized? It shouldn’t do this if you set the on + boost setting.

I have reflex boost on. My CPU is at 5.2-5.4 Gs. I am on 4K, it might be the frame view not reading properly as I turned it on just to see the latency with FG. This frame view can get bugged a lot. Will try MSI AB readout also.

I beat it this week and I would say I liked it as much as Part 1. Also watching the show at the same time and while Bella feels like miscast sometimes, I still like the show. I think they get way too much hate and online bullying though.

I think I might have narrowed down the crashing to an OC issue. The weird thing is that literally no other game has issues with the OC, including far more graphically-intensive games, but when I bump it down I don't seem to get the crashes.

Anyway, fun game. I think I'm almost back to the point that I got to when I started playing it on PS4, but never ended up finishing it.

ive run into that before too, not in this but other games. must be hitting the card just the right way to find that minorly unstable spot.

I am also using DLAA and frame gen and getting 150-200 fps depending on indoors vs outdoors. Indoors sometimes goes to 220 fps or higher.

You don't need a 5090 to run this game at max settings. It has no raytracing and runs really good.

LOL

I didn’t say anything about needing a 5090 to run this game well at max settings.

I was referring to the 220 fps or more part, and this presumably is at max settings in 4K?

That doesn’t scream 5090 to you? What? lol

I feel like she was good as younger Ellie, who was mostly a goofball that interacted a lot with Joel. Trick is, the role has kinda passed her by and older Ellie is darker. Maybe she'll prove me wrong, and Ellie still has goofy moments, but I'm not feeling it so far. If anything, Kaitlyn Dever (who plays Abby) would probably be a better fit for season 2 Ellie. I'm still weirded out that they aren't using any camera tricks to make her seem at least a little bigger. She isn't just non-buff, she's smaller than everyone else around her. They're going to have to reimagine a Abby quite a bit once things hit the fan in Seattle. I do like some of the changes they've made, though. The infected invasion provides a much better reason for the town not to send a team to Seattle. The actors for Jesse, Dina, and Owen seem good, too.

Anyway - game-wise, anyone playing with a 4090 and would you say it's a pretty good experience? I'm waffling on rebuying it since the PS5 version is honestly pretty great as-is.

Playing on my 4080 at 1440 and it runs fantastic with max settings and DLAA.

I have a 4090 and running 4k120 DLAA and it's been smooth af. It runs better than the 1st game on PC with the most recent patches.

On the red side, my AMD 7900XTX runs this game like a dream, I'm only using 2560x1440p but can't imagine how it would look like with 4k.

I finally finished the game just a bit ago, that last encounter and the ending, intense.

new/normie viewers werent too happy, they did not see that coming.
but thats talk for the shows thread...
It was a risky choice - as many people tuned to the show because of Pascal. I am assuming they will add some flashback crap to keep him through the season.

I completed it last night and I will generally say this game is the rare game where the sequel is just better in every way. It runs/looks better, and the gameplay is an upgrade for sure. I didn’t think I’d like the Ellie/abby switch up but it actually works very good. It’s a pretty remarkable game all around. I’m still not a fan visually of the Abby character in the game though, as it’s pretty impossible to get over the steroid user professional body builder that they modeled her after. Abby character should have just been male if they wanted someone with that level of build/strength, and they could have still just made it a gay dude if they wanted to make it “woke”.
