Have you ever looked forward to a game, and then got it, played it, and was utterly dissapointed or disgusted with it?

Well then, post 'em here!

For me, I have a few that come to mind...

Wipeout Fusion... I love the wipeout series, but this one just sucked. I just didn't like it.

Far Cry 2... just didn't do it for me, it was okay and all, I just like the first one better

Call of Duty... It was a great game, but the ending was just... an ending. I didn't like the ending, other than that, it was awesome.

Medal of Honor 2010... It was waaay to short. The multiplayer is fun though.

eh, I was about to say why don't you make one? But, you edited it.

Bioshock 2 - had GFWL, 4 lame endings, no fucking story to speak of, 2 years of development time that obviously didn't go into making a good game, was only 6 hours long, the ONLY improvement over the original was the improved combat.

I'm pretty sure every game thread is already this. Shoot, most skip looking forward to it and/or playing it - they just go straight to being disgusted.

alan wake.

It was a good game in it's own right... but compared to what was promissed and what they actually delivered, it was a bit of a let down. The whole DX10 exclusive-moved to Xbox only also didn't help.

Resident Evil 4 for the PC. I loved the gamecube and PS2 versions of this game... but the PC version was probably the worst game port ever made. Thank god for the modding community. They actually turned that turd into something decent.

The latest splinter cell game was also disappointing. As a fan on the franchise, it was a big letdown.

+1 Alan Wake. I've posted the long list of the game's failures around here before so I won't go into it again. The best part of the game was the enemy voices.

My biggest disappointment? Wolfenstein. The original started me out on FPS games, and RTCW has a permanent spot on my all time favorites list. The franchise deserved better than the piece of consolized crap that they released.

eh, I don't even blame consoles for that falure. It sucked on every platform.

I agree though... For all the time that I've owned it, I haven't put more than 2-3 hours into it. It just didn't feel like a wolfenstein game at all.

Neverwinter Nights 2. It ran like a dog, looked like trash, had a horrible interface, bad voice acting, and a joke of a plot. I tried my best to play it but eventually just quit.
I've tried to give it another go 2-3 more times after subsequent patches and I still can't bring myself to play it.

Another vote for Bioshock 2. It felt like an Uwe Boll rendition.

Betrayal in Antara. NOT a spiritual successor to Krondor.

Dragon Age 2. Fuck that game.

Gothic 1. Other than the well done story, garbage.

Metro 2033...only for the fact that I'm playing it right now...what a freaking boring game. Walk, put on gas mask, pick up bullets, recharge gas mask, shoot mutant dogs, go to next checkpoint, rinse and repeat. It's like Stalker but with prettier graphics.....blaahhh!

Far Cry 2 - No game I've purchased through Steam, except this one, ever made me go WTF there has to be some kind of return option for such a flaming pile of dog shit.

COD: BO - A friend gifted me this game (at full price) because my usual group of FPS buddies were all playing and I refused to. It actually pissed me off how much the game was lacking. I gifted him back BC2 which for some reason he hadn't picked up yet (at a fraction of the cost of BO ;) ) and haven't looked back.

Metro2033 - Heard all the good things about it....but have to agree with the above poster. Just plain boring. Bad guys run at you, you shoot them. Not a single unique gameplay characteristic, and the story is pretty lacking/non-existant as well. I find that as I'm getting older I play more for the story than the action; this has neither.

I thought the SP was alright, but I got tired of the "hub" incredibly quick. The sad state of the MP disappointed me more.

On topic: Every Bioware game since KOTOR

Thanks for reminding me about that one. Heaping Pile that one is!

As for Wolfenstein, I enjoyed it, but I don't consider it as part of the series, it doesn't even hold a light up to RTCW. That's just me though.

Condemned 2, for the fact it's never been on PC, and from what little I've played on the PS3, it is quite shitty compared to the first one.

I can see why Metro 2033 displeased some people, but I loved it :) With a good rig to run it, and somewhat ignoring the dodgy AI when attempting to stealth a level, this game was awesome for me.

For me, I have disliked every "modern combat" CoD games (I've only briefly tried MW2 and BLOPS, and theyve been discussed to death so Ill talk bout MW).
I never got very far in the SP of MW - every time I tried it felt hella boring and more or less like a lesson in how many towelheads a western dude can shoot with superior technology. I didnt care much for the multiplayer - not bad but I saw no compelling reason to play it over other games

Super Mario Bros - The princess is in another castle? Well fuck her should have given me better directions. I'm a plumber not a fucking GPS.

Let's see... that's a tough one.

I think I'll choose every game released after 2005.

Ah there were a few over a time

Legend of Dragoon for ps1 was a huge let down, spanned 4 disks, high production and expensive to make but it just sucked.

Neverwinter Nights (all versions) going from Baldurs Gate 1/2 and Icewind Dale 1/2 in the infinity engine to this quasi 3d blocky nightmare was enough to push me away from any new D&D game since.

Empire Total War, was a huge fan of all the older Total War games but I just hated Empire, guns+silly outfits+forts instead of castles=super boring, give me swords and shields anytime.

Actually,Metro disappointed me because it's so much unlike STALKER. When I heard some of the people who worked on SOC were involved with it,I got my hopes up for another open world shooter with RPG elements, but Metro is depressingly linear. And the checkpoint system sucks on any game.

Brink: What a hyped up mess that was. People still suck the game off even to this day, defending some junk SD made years ago claim they will fix the game. Next think you know I will be winning the lottery twice in a row.

Left 4 Dead 2. Terrible AI, weak level design, co-op objectives that were just tedious busy-work and not fun, bad lighting and terrible graphics in general.

The sequel to Warhammer40K: Dawn of War was nothing at all like the original. Should've been called Warhammer40K: Heroes or something rather than trying to capitalize on the popularity of the first one.

Another bad game I paid good money for was Star Wars Galaxies; I quit in the third week of the first free month when I realized the game was more like actual work than playing. Hellgate suffered a similiar fate.

But not all bad games I paid for were really that terrible... Ultima IX was almost unplayable in its original release state, and I didn't get to actually try it out until something like ten years later after I patched it up with official and community fixes. I remember being let down by every Might and Magic after VI though that's when the franchise started sliding downhill on an outdated engine and recycled gameplay.

There were many others but I have since repressed them into the deepest, darkest areas of my pysche where they can fester quietly as a mental illness.

Thats funny as that was the last Might and Magic I played myself, was a fun game. It was also my first Might and Magic game, I didnt realize I could level up my skills until 1/4 through the game, I was wondering why it was so damn difficult!

Sometimes I will load up heroes of might and magic 2 which has a trailer for the game, then I remember I was like...16 when I bought it (nigh on 13 years ago) and I feel old!

This is definitely the most recent disappointment for me. I decided about 12 hours before release to buy it for PC, then when it was released I spent forever trying to get in to a game with friends. It was kinda fun once we actually got playing but I haven't even launched the game since release day.

Metro 2033 was pretty boring. The voice acting, soundtrack, graphics, were good but I never got invested in the story.

Early Might and Magic is pure gold, that's for sure. I played the original as a 10 year old almost 25 years ago! But the third one, Isles of Terra, I still think was the best in the series. It was the only one of the bunch I ever finished, too. Number six, I stopped halfway through the game, right at the point where you had to choose whether to be Light or Dark... and I saved to mull it over, got distracted, and actually never came back to the game ever again. That seems to be happening more and more often as I get older, too. :)

Sad thing is I got into the story, but it didn't give me the good ending. Doesn't walking through war zones and battlefields and not killing a soul count for anything?

For a wide-sweeping generalization, that's actually pretty accurate.

Recent ones:

Supreme Commander 2
Portal 2
Battlefield 1943 (PS3)
Burnout: Paradise (PS3)
Bad Company 2
Call of Duty: BO
Team Fortress 2
And you know what? Even Starcraft 2 (was Masters league)
Lots of MMOs...

Uh...

I think I'll just choose every game released after 2005.

Really? I thought it was great, that game pretty much made RPG's my favorite genre since I first played it. To each their own though.

What about the game with your name?

omg, yes. Extremely boring game. I cant believe all the praise this game got. I kept expecting it to get better (enemies, weapons, purchases, story, SOMETHING!)...... then the game ended. I was pissed.

I mean, Earth Defence Force 2017, Duke Nukem Forever and Legendary I enjoyed way more and all people did was bitch about those games.

My biggest disappointment ever...
Duke nukem forever.
"PC first" my ass.

Then:
Crysis 2
far cry 2
fear 2
Quake 4
age of Conan (started out great and then it seemed like funcom gave up after like lvl 20. By the Time they fixed it it was to late.)
