The Altcoin Thread

well the good news is ltc just touched $20

the bad news is that the difficulty jumped by 1000 over the past week, it is now 6000 difficulty, which is nuts

sorry, I mean hash rate is going to make it 6000 difficulty at next adjust tomorrow

I'm willing to bet the ~50Gh at ghash.io will largely leave after the 2x promo is over (really 1.25x). That should bring difficulty back down to 5000 before the week is out.

Yup, everybody will go back to multipool mining and LTC will return to normal.

The problem is, because the shitcoins values have gone down, multipools are still mining LTC on and off so the difficulty won't be dropping lower by much (like it used to) :(

so...when does the bottom fall out of this LTC pump?

well not really a pump, the day ended at 19.50 or so, it is hovering

apparently there are some exchanges newly carrying ltc in china and such so it is causing a rise in buying demand

the the scrypt coin market gets super crowded and people don't know where to turn and they cannot afford btc or btc doesn't seem reasonable, ltc might be their fallback

I mean if a newbie shows up and sees all the other coins at pennies, meanwhile litecoin was at $15, it makes you think ltc might be worth more somehow, so they jump into that pool

I think the dream of of ltc @ $100 is pure fantasy though, even $40 would be a miracle

Huobi was supposed to start carrying LTC in China on the 19th.

I agree somewhat. $40 again might not be too far fetched. $30 would be a great area for it to settle back down in. But, just like BTC, there are a lot of bag holders. Once it gets there it won't stay there for long. Someone will drop the price just to buy up cheap LTC sold by panic sellers. Whether it would recover that value afterwards would be anyone's guess.

DOGE (to BC paying P2Pool node) is up for non-public testing. Anyone still interested in helping test out for the next 24 hours with your miners please PM me! Thanks.

(you will be paid appropriately for your hashes... in BC :p)

I know this is not a FS/FT thread, but I'm about to put my Asus 280x dc2 up if anyone wants it. I'll give y'all a good deal. PM me if interested.

You never know.... we might be looking back at this thread in a year or 2 and be laughing at those prices :)

I hope so.

With the price history of BTC & LTC, it isn't uncommon for their price to gain by a factor of 5-10 in a year.
Just remember, in Jan 2013, BTC was around $20, and LTC was about $0.08

I'm only selling currently to get back to even...

once I'm no longer in red I'm just sitting on my coins and paying the power bill. I actually believe in LTC/BTC long term but with a family and being a full time student I can't have a large chunk invested and just sitting there after putting some of my own funds in. I think I'd be profitable if I sold my coins today but I'm sitting on about 2BTC until it goes back over $700 because I have my bills paid far enough in advance that I can sit on it for a while longer.

To those who had issues in PM, I have replied. The node has running super stable for the past 12 hours at 35-40 MH/s. I plan to take it down in another ~12 hours and process BC payments then. Round 2 testing will be this weekend. I don't think my ISP is going to be happy about it, but whatever, I paid for fast and unlimited internet for a reason!

Have you been buying BC continuously or are you waiting to make the buy and then do the payouts? I am just curious.

Waiting to make the buy, though if price gets silly later (high) I will give the option to the workers on the node to just be paid their mined Doges. Your estimate mined amount if based off the mature Dogecoin total sitting in the node wallet (does not account immature that still need to time to confirm). The BC wallet is empty as of right now.

Mintpal is going to release a trading api in ~2 weeks, and once they do, I will look into automating the entire process so payouts are just a steady stream as the p2pool network payments in. But until they do, I can only do it manually, and unfortunately once per day in the late evening hours which is really all that's convenient for me.

Yeah I understand that. Price has definitely been climbing back up again. One of the coins I wish I had bought all in at 500 but oh well. It will be nice to have more BC.

Anybody mining Vertcoin (VTC)? Curious to know if anyone's found any good pools and what some good baseline miner settings would be (for AMD and NVIDIA).

Alright, I give up on BAMT. I've tried it on 2 different usb sticks. I drop my cgminer config in and it went a long fine until it dropped eth0. I set eth0 to static and removed network manager, then the system doesn't think any cards are configured despite sgminer running normally in screen.

Can win7 handle 5 gpu's?

Give me coins has a vert pool up.

Windows 7 has given me issues with 5x GPUs. I've read there is a workaround, but the easiest thing to do is just to install Windows 8, it handles 5x GPUs fine.

I wish I could get Win8 working on a USB stick but every single time I've tried it forze at boot. I did manage to get Win 7 working off a USB drive but then there's that 4-5x GPU limit. And it was also terribly slow given I couldn't boot it off a USB 3.0 port.

Oh my f-ing gawd

Has this been posted yet?

https://www.kncminer.com/products/titan

kncminer titan - 100 mh/s of scrypt for $10k

Remember these are the knc people, they ship.

So that is like what, 120 R9 290X cards? (which would be $60,000)

added: my apologies to sunnyd who posted this 12 hours ago, I never look in the cryto forum and only this thread, lol

Hm I expect we will see a large proliferation of scrypt-n and ASIC-resistant coins popping up. People still want to mine with their gpus. I hope the doge developers change the algorithm to be ASIC resistant as they discussed.

ASICS will take over scrypt. All the gpus will move to something else, and the cycle will repeat itself again.

Glad to see Wafflepool a bit higher for a change. I know he developed a new stratum server and changed a few things around with the way it handles rejects. Now you get a few more rejects but, in the end, it's supposed to equal more profit.

go with server 2012. If you have or know someone who has a .edu account you can get 2 free copies of server 2012 R2 (win 8.1) One in standard flavor and the other enterprise.

Round 1 testing of my node has concluded. Will open a second test, to hopefully 100-200 MH/s this weekend. If you did not get a BC payment and you were mining, let me know!

(Also, second round of payments will go out tomorrow morning, an extra 44% of the DOGE balance is still sitting unconfirmed so that's not all the BC you'll get)

The last few days were absolutely terrible for me on Wafflepool, but today has been good, i hope it keeps up.

Apparently he just went live with his new stratum changes in the past day or two. So ya, if it worked, that might be part of the reason the day was better for you.

Aside from mining some more DOGE, I'm looking forward to getting back on Wafflepool to test out the new changes myself to see if it has indeed raised profitability.

Ha, I just switched from Waffle to Clever since they had the best payouts consistently in the past week.

The change to KGW styled diff on many of these coins is definitely having an impact.

Anybody have the latest cudaminer freak out and crash?

I have some oddness going on. I was pulling 280 and then it freaked out and was running fast with some error so I shut it down.

Turns out I had a nvlddmkm event 4101 error.

Now I can only pull 250.

I have a mild +100 core and +600 clock on my 750ti.

Before this cudaminer would push the card right to TDP and hang around 98-99%
Now suddenly it's around 80%.

Either the card is burned in now after a week or it's burning out.

bench tests pass easily.

It's left at stock voltage which adjusts to load but drops quit a bit with cudaminer.

1.1870 gpu-z 99% load
1.0250 cudaminer 96% load

I also cannot maintain the default core yet alone boost even though I am at 80% TDP and temp at 40C.

Should be running at full boost with those numbers, it was before the crash.

Any idea?

latest nvidia drivers, 7-64x OS

If any [H]ers are interested in help test this out :

http://cryptoalts.com/index.php

It runs off P2Pool, so worker restarts are normal. And the pool DOA rate is ~10%+ because I have some testing from different parts of the world. But efficiency is still over 100% compared to the rest of the Doge P2P network. Please note I have about 12 Mbps of actual upload. It was handling 60 MH/s fine last night, but I was seeing spikes (sending out worker data I guess) of up to 7-8 Mbps. I may look into some dedicated hosting in the future.

When Mintpal releases their trading api, I am going to fully automate the exchange and payout process.

Are you doing the google chrome trick? Also try a higher core and lower memory clock. My standard PNY 750TI's like 215/550 atm for a solid 300 KH/S per card

Google chrome trick? I've had chrome opened up [to follow the pool] and closed and don't recall seeing any difference.

What I do see is when cudaminer autotunes to t5x24 I get my best rates, it also pushes the TDP to between 97-99%. t10x24 is the same.

I have not managed to make a working .bat file in which I can force that setting. Flag switches just don't appear to work for me.

+215/550 is not bad.

Even at 300 khash you are only talking about $1.30 a day with LTC and the price is dropping. It really is becoming a waste of time.
