Testing computer speeds?

About 4 months ago, I threw together what I thought would be a beast of a computer. My specs are as follows...

Processor: E6600
Motherboard: PB5-E
Graphics Card: 7600 GT
RAM: Buffalo Firestix 2 GB PC6400 DDR 800

With the intentions of overclocking it at a later date, I also purchases a Scythe Ninja Heatsink.

The problem is, everything works fine, but it doesn't seem any faster or able to handle much more (multitasking) than my old Dell Dimension with 512mb of ram. Is there a way to test some things to see if my system is running at it's maximum capabilities (w/o overclocking).

I want to make sure that this thing is running as fast and efficiently as it should be before I o/c it.

Also, how can I look at current temps of the cpu? Can this only be done through the BIOS?

Any thoughts or comments would be really apprecaited, thanks guys!

Could you list some more details. Call me retarded, but how do I run those or where do I get ahold of them? Thanks for bearing with me here guys...

I say you're just getting use to the system. Sure, when you first bought and built the system, it seemed faster and much better than the old. But now since it's been 4 months, you've gotten use to the system. You know that what it can and can't do. So thats why it doesn't seem any faster but trust me, it is.

That's the thing, it NEVER seemed much faster. I've simply been overwhelmed with college life and haven't had time to post and/or do anything about it. Here are some screen shots that I took when running some of the utilities...

all of them are free and have readme's.
Yeah, as you'll notice from the page I posted, I found the links, ran the utilities and took screenshots. Could someone please look at the screenshots I posted and see if anything looks out of place? Should my RAM be in two channels instead of one?
