Has anyone out there been able to find any real benchmarks for TeraCopy in Windows 7 x64? I realize there are several utilities similar to TeraCopy and I'm really curious about which, if any, actually increase performance when transferring files.
 
I didn't do any benchmarks, but I did install teracopy to speed up gigE LAN transfers between my XP and Win7 box. It's faster than explorer ops and brings move back to Win7.
 
One of the first utilities I ever install with new Windows installations. Can't live without it.
 
I've seen some benchmarks where it's actually a little slower, but it's usually faster. It also adds some functionality too.

I have it installed, but removed it as the default handler due to some issues. When moving some things around on the same drive, it would actually copy them. I don't remember all the details, but where the default Explorer move would simply rename the file's directory structure (that's all a move is on the same drive), TeraCopy would actually take a number of minutes to move all the data to the other location. It was enough of an annoyance that I went back to the default Explorer move, and manually choose to use TeraCopy via context menu when I'm doing something where it'll benefit.
 
See, this is what I'm talking about. No one really seems to know exactly what the hell the utility is doing, if anything. I've heard from some people that TeraCopy enables multithreading when transferring files, but I wasn't able to find any proof of that on the official TeraCopy website. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this claim? I figured that was something that was taking place by default in Windows 7.
 
i use fastcopy.... was benchmarked by lifehacker to be 100%-800% faster than teracopy and it can be used as a portable app or as a installed,

did 2.5 TBs overnight :D (rebuilding my WHS)
 
I love teracopy, when you copy a large amount of files and 1 file fail the whole transfer doesn't fail like with windows. And it's also faster tho how much faster depend on what is copied. I like being able to pause copy if I need to. It's also nice to be able to check the integrity of the copied files.
 
I use SuperCopier, the speeds are good and i like the way you can queue up lots of file transfers to different locations, also the way by default you can set your preferences for 'if a file exists' - so you don't come back 1 day later and find a windows pompt asking for confirmation has popped up 10 minutes into your transfers.

Isn't it about time windows had a built in queue

I don't know about Vista and Win7 but on WinXP:
I find Teracopy 1.x (not 2.0) with a 1MB buffer fastest for moving lots of large files but not as fast as Fastcopy for small files.
I find Fastcopy fastest for moving lots of small files but not as fast as Teracopy for large files.

Another option is RichCopy which acts similarly to FastCopy, but is slightly slower.
 
FastCopy is awesome. I use it on my flash drive. SuperCopier is great on my work station.

TeraCopy is ok but the dev is an asshole who will rip you off. I know, he ripped me off twice.

What happened with TeraCopy for you?
 
I just love it for the pause function. I only use it for network transfers though as explorer is faster from drive to drive locally.

He updated the software and changed the licensing key algorithm. I lost both my licenses to Audio Sliders and Direct Folders because the guy is an asshole and won't reply to requests for new keys.

Search around, he's burned a few people.

I like some of the features, such as queing and the pause, but its slow. The max speed i can get on it is like 50MB/s.
 
If its backup/replication you're looking to do on a schedule AND handle tons of files, I can't say enough about SyncbackPro- I've tried everything else and there's always some wall I run into, like one utility doesn't support preserving file/folder creation dates, or another util chokes in certain situations, etc. It copied 20Tb in about 9 hours for me over the weekend (of course that was raid card -> raid card in same system).
 
I havent tried that one.

Maybe this will actually work well

Thats quite a margin there!

But will give it a chance. Have been very happy with TeraCopy so far.

And what drives are you copying and writing data too. Sounds more like a hardware limitation than the actual app, from my platter based drives i have easily 90 mb/sec.
 
OCZ Vertex SSD -> 2x300GB vRaptor RAID0

Its not the drives, using windows builtin i get over 150MBs, if i install teracopy it drops to ~50.
 
Now that I have had Fastcopy for a while, I must admit that transfer speeds surely are higher compared to TeraCopy.
