I recently decided to turn my E8400 with Asus P5N-D setup into an overclocked one (my first overclock setup and I installed a new Zalman 9900 for the task), but first wanted to make sure I had an idea of what temps were. Another site said to gauge temps with case covers off first at idle (to see if the tcase temp was about 3 above ambient) and then at load where a difference of about 5 degrees was supposed to be seen between tjunction and tcase.
So I loaded up speedfan, but, the things is, the Core 0 and Core 1 temps just sat at around 38 and 35 respectively both when I let it sit at idle for 10 min, and then when I let it go to prime 95 small ffts for 10 min (with a margin of about 1 degree movement while switching to load). There was one temp that changed (labeled Temp1) when I did this between about 32 and 45 degrees. Nothing else really moved.
This seems wrong on the three counts that there should be, as far as I know, a temperature that the cores move in conjunction with, that the cores should get hotter when put under load, and that at idle the temp should be a lot closer to room temp (about 20 in my apartment).
I will note that before sticking in the Zalman 9900, while still on stock cooler, I did a test with realtemp (switched to speedfan as the other site recommended that) and the reported temps were about 41 per core on idle, 71 per core on load, but as far as I know, bad as stock cooler supposedly is, even that is too high (there was no appreciable amount of dust buildup inside the case). Also, both coolers are reporting about 40 at idle for the cores where I would imagine they'd be reporting closer to within 10 degrees of room temperature given how at least the Zalman's is clearly able to dispose of heat (reported 30 degree improvement at load, but then again, not really sure what is right).

GPU: 68C
Temp1: 33C
Temp2: 38C
Temp3: 22C
Core 0: 38C
Core 1: 35C
Realtemp just reports same values for Core 0 and Core 1.
Any pointers on whether it's normal for temps to be such or if there's some methodology I should be following to evaluate/correct the temperatures would be appreciated.
