Getting a new (new to me) motherboard in the next few days and really want to get as much as possible out of my G0 Q6600. The board is an EVGA 750i FTW and I have a TRUE 120 to sit on the proc.

My question is what is the most reliable software to get accurate temps? Most of what Ive read says some software can be better than other software. Just curious what [H]'ers use to check temps...
 
Realtemp, hands down.

However, almost all of the good utilities use the same method of reading the temp sensors embeded into the cpu circuitry and will be within 1C of each other. Coretemp, speedfan, everest, etc. etc.

But I suggest Realtemp, its kinda the gold standard for temp readings and comparing on this forum.
 
I would use the Open Hardware Monitor which allows to plot the core temperatures as well. The only difference about the accuracy of the core temperatures can come from guessing the TjMax differently in each program. This is not so much caused by one program being worse than the other, but more because the "exact" TjMax just can't be determined (without calibrating the CPU you use in a lab). In most good programs you can adjust the TjMax. But being the author of the Open Hardware Monitor, I might be biased a bit, when it comes to which program to use :p.

speedfan for me. i can control all of my fans with it too.

the temps in speedfan read exactly the same as realtemp for me.
