Hi, I have a 3000+ Venice on DFI LANPARTY UT ultra-d motherboard with thermalright XP-120 w/ panaflow 120mm hydrowave fan w/ AS5. When I open smartguardian it detects my cpu temp as 70 C, (It seems like it detects it @ like 36 @ 1st but then a couple minutes or less it shoots up to 70/71!) I immediately restart into bios and it says CPU temp is 34-36. I run MBM5 too but you decide which sensor is which. I have 3 things..one is 45 C other is 38 and the other is 70 also in MBM5. If it was running @ 70 wouldn't it have died by now or crashed? I ran prime95 for well over an hour and temps barely changed and it never crashed and I been playing CSS and doing other stuff and no issues. Thanks guys.
 
I have a different proc but the same mobo. Try downloading everest home edition, its free and I know the sensors detect properly with this mobo. Go to lavalys.com. If I had to guess I would say its the power management area on the mobo cuz I have had heat issues there but only up to 60C. On the other hand I have an extemely well cooled case. This will give a good starting point for me to help you out. Feel free to post or pm with more questions.
 
Everest says my CPU is 70 C, 36 for motherboard, 44 for north bridge, 57 for graphics, 39 graphics ambient and 29 for my 160 gig hdd. It also says my CPU fan is 5500-6000 rpm but when on newegg the specs are 2100 RPM and on panasonics website.

Maybe just a bad sensor? I ran prime 95 for 8 hours straight one time, no problems. Wouldnt it be unstable and crash @ 70/71 C if I been running it all the time for the past 5 days. I did 3dmark01/03/05 and prime95 for over 10 hours total and memtest.
 
Put your finger on the HSF while it says it it 70C. If it is really 70C, it should be fairly hot. If it isn't, you're probably ok.
