Hello,

I currently have this:

AMD FX-57 CPU
2X 7900GT Video cards
2GB Corsair RAM

I want to upgrade to the following:

GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L MB
Intel E8400 CPU
Kingston HyperX 2GB DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) RAM
BFG Tech BFGR88768GTXOCE Video card

The upgrade parts will cost about $820 I want to know if this will provide a substantial increase in performance for FPS and MMO games. I play on a 23inch flat panel.

Thanks for any help and advice!

What's the max resolution of that monitor?

Also, ditch the GTX. The 8800GT and 8800GTS perform on par or sometimes better than the GTX and are significantly cheaper.

Personally, I recommend getting the 880GT first and see if you have a noticeable performance increase.

The max resolution of the monitor is 1920 X 1200. I'll check out the other video cards as well. Thanks!

OK, I changed the following:

GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L MB
Intel E8400 CPU
2X Kingston HyperX 2GB DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) RAM
BFG Tech BFGE88512GTSE GeForce 8800GTS (G92)

Look good?

Looks good, though if you're not planning on overclocking, you could buy a 2x2GB kit of DDR2 800 RAM for around $90.

Where are you planning on buying everything at?

Regarding the RAM:
$40 - 2GB DDR2 PC6400 PATRIOT/ SINGLE MODULE
$40 - 2GB DDR2 PC6400 PATRIOT/ SINGLE MODULE

Video Card:
$280 - MSI NX8800GTS-T2D512E GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail + Free Witcher PC game w/ purchase, while supplies last ($30MIR)
You may also want toi consider cheaper alternatives, as the 8800GT and 3870.

Yes. In fact, if you're not overclocking, all you really need is DDR2 667 RAM. Core 2 Duo PCs do not benefit from having faster RAM or having the RAM and FSB at anything other than a 1:1 ratio. Some equations to read:

Stated FSB/4 = Actual FSB
Multiplier x Actual FSB = CPU Speed
2 x Actual FSB = RAM Speed

E8400:
Multi x FSB, RAM Speed = Clock Speed
9 x 333Mhz, DDR2 667 RAM = 3.0Ghz <== Stock Speeds
9 x 400Mhz, DDR2 800 RAM = 3.6Ghz <== Easy OC
9 x 450Mhz, DDR2 900 RAM = 4.0Ghz <== Good OC
9 x 500Mhz, DDR2 1000 RAM = 4.5Ghz <== Excellent OC

So yes, DDR2 800 RAM is all that you need.
