Problem: System seems not booting as Monitor not displaying.any thing.

System:
PSU: CORSAIR CMPSU-850TX 850W ATX12V 2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply

MoBo: DFI LP UT X58-T3eH8 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard

RAM: 6GB (3 sticks)
Graphic: Evga 260

Monitor: 2 years old Dell 222209WA.
Second HD drive is hooked onto system also, but only as a storage drive.

Motherboard and CPU are about two years old and running Windows 7 X64

Not sure what's going on with my system. In the middle of work, my system just turned off.

Upon attempt to reboot, first couple times, nothing happened, but there after, it fires up. However, nothing appears on monitor.

Switched to a spare graphic card, reboot again, but nothing appear on monitor.still.

Took out main hard disc drive that contain OS, hooked onto a different system via USB external enclosure, showed up OK, So I am assuming, it is working properly.

With the help of fellow HardForum members limitedaccess and dioxholster, did the following, but still no solution:

1. When first turn on Monitor to double check OSD, it displays "MESSAGE entering power save mode" and the "Dell 222209WA", nothing else. Is this what OSD refers to? There are no Vertical color bars displayed whatsoever.

2. Confirmed that the led light, "reset" and power shut off buttons come on when hooked to and turned on power system.

3. Took lithium battery off, then reset jumpers to pins 2&3. After over a minute or so, put back the battery, and set jumpers back to default position (pins 1&2). Replug, power cord, Turned on system again, but still nothing display on monitor. (System still hooked up with the spare graphic card).

4. Cycled through memory sticks:
Took the first two (furthest from the CPU), then use that first one placed in 2nd, then third slots, with each reboot in between, nothing appears on monitor.

Used 2nd stick, placed in first, 2nd, third mem slots, with reboots in between, nothing appear on monitor either.

Used third stick, placed in firs, 2nd, 3rd slot, with reboots in between, nothing either.

At this point not sure what's happening. Any and all thoughts on this would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Thank you, Danny,

I spent some times here: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1349426, searching for the guide on "what to do when the PC does not POST", but (perhaps out of my noobie) could locate it. Please kindly let me know where I may find it. is it in the "General hardware" forum? or else where?

Thanks again.

The part you're looking for is called "A Barebones bench test - Procedures to follow if your system does not POST"

It's in that link you gave us.

Danny, thanks for confirming that link.

Must be the noobie in me. Even with your "A Barebones bench test - Procedures to follow if your system does not POST", still can't find it after looking for it the pas two days. Found this Back to basics… A Barebones bench test, but not sure if its what you are referring to as it says nothing about "system not POST"..

Sorry, have to ask you for direct link to it, Please kindly do so.

dioxholster, thank you as well for your continue support in this matter.

Yes, did unplug both the 8 and 24 pins power connectors, replug them, double checked for their secure connection, still nothing shows up on monitor.

Then I unplugged power supply to all except: MO, CPU, Graphic card, fans, and main HD drive, then reboot, yet nothing still.

Hope to get to the link Danny referred to soon and see what else can be done.

In the remote chance that a CPU heats up and shut itself off, it's my understanding that once it has cooled down, it should be OK again, correct?

you could try to reinsert the 8 pin & 24 pin power connector and make sure its secure.

Wow, never heard of Ctrl-C, Ctrl-F?

Anyway, "A Barebones bench test - Procedures to follow if your system does not POST" is a sub-header of the "Back to basics… A Barebones bench test" that you mentioned but incorrectly linked:

Follow the steps there fully.

I don't know how else to make it easier to find, but if you have an idea, just let us know (how to make that section easier to find). A direct link is not as easy to provide since the topic is locked. Ahh, I see the link in the bullet list is a bit off... I'll get that fixed. Though, searching with the browser (Ctrl+F) should have found it for you anyhow.

Yes, you're understanding is correct about CPUs overheating. However, there is still a slight chance it was damaged if it did overheat.

Thank you, Danny, for the link.

Sorry, heard of Ctrl-C and used it. But not Ctrl-F. Will have to learn about it.

Did test as suggested in the info from your link, both with RAM in first slot and NO RAM, yet no post.

Reseated the CPU, tested with RAM in Fist slot then Second slot closest to CPU, yet no post.

Base on info from your link, says try with another MO or PSU, but I don't have another MO.

With respect to PSU, if all fans and lights on the system comes on, would this indicate the the PSU is OK?

Any other suggestions besides having to purchase a new MO?

THank you once again.

Hi enginurd, thank you as well for your thought on the matter. Perhaps it was just my inexperience, thus not able to find the proper info. Sorry, I don't have any good or better suggestion for the link.

If a CPU is damaged due to over heat, any way I can test to find out?

If the CPU doesnt work in a known working board, it may be toast.
If it works but idle and/or load temps are higher than normal with the CPU HSF always on full RPM during CPU testing, then its most likely incurred some damage (you can try another CPU HSF to double check). Its up to you to get it RMA'd or not, depending on performance and warranty. For testing, use Prime95 or something similar (IBT, OCCT, etc).

Enginurd,

Thank you for the info.

Finally got a hold of a new processor to test. This is a brand new identical processor. Still nothing posted. Nothing shows up on screen.

If its the MO, would the led light comes on? What can I do to test the whether its the mother board or not?

Whatelse could it be?

THank you in advance.
