System keeps hanging and restarting? Mup.sys

My dad's computer now has a problem when you turn on the computer. When you turn it on, it gets past the POST screen then when it gets the the part were it says Windows and you see the bars going across it gets there and after the bars go across several times it restarts. I decided to boot in safe mode to see what the problem was, and i come across that it gets to Mup.sys it restarts.


Anyone know what could be the problem? The OS on the computer is XP home.

well the problem with doing a reinstall is, my dad has alot of important things still on his hard drive. anyone know what might be a problem?
