Well the issue is my vid card a Radeon 9800 pro 128mb stock speed. It seems to sometimes artifcat during Counter Strike and ATi Tool but not all the time. So i pulled it out and examined the heat sink, and it was completely clogged with dust, so i went outside and used dustoff to clean it up. Then the problem was gone. Until about 2 weeks later, it started to artifact again. If it artifacts during cs it artifacts in ati tool. If it doesn't artifact in ati tool then it wont artifact in cs.
So I pull it out once again and examine the heat sink, its clean but i dust it off a little, and put it back again. It works no artifacts. The next day try to play and same it starts to artifact again. I think its a overheating issue.
My question is, i have a system blower right underneath the vid card. Is there any way in which i can reverse the fan to blow air inside the case rather than blowing out, btw it blows aton of air and is pretty loud.

Lose the blower. You are robbing the HSF of air to move, which is why you are having overheating issues, IMO.

Generally, blowers aren't a good way to cool your case. If you don't believe me, look around in the 'show off your case' and the 'show off your workstation' threads in the Case Mods section and find me a case there with a PCI slot blower. Go ahead and try.

If you feel the need to utilize this $7 case accessory, move it down from the video card. Maybe it'll circulate some air, or something.

Get rid of the blower.. they are fairly useless and just circulate the hot air comming off of your card back onto your card..

Sounds like your card needs some TLC.
Pull it and dust it VERY well, then go invest in some good artic goop and reapply the cooling solution. If it still artifacts after that, it may be too little too late for your card. Hopefully its a heating issue and not an issue with your gpu being ruined already from heat.

Well, i unplugged the system blower, when i realized that it was useless it was too late to return it =( so, after i unplugged it i played a little and it seems to be better, i gained 2 fps =D so ill continue to test it out and ill post back if it acts up again

Re-apply the thermal paste, it works great, i used Artic Silver 3, you can use AS5 o Ceramic

Well today, wed. i didn't play at all untill about 6 hrs of computer up time, and then as soon as i started to play, artifacts like crazy. So, i guess my only option left if reapplying thermal paste. I was trying to steer away from that cause i haven't really applied it myself, i've usually had someone help me with it or at least supervise me doing it.

Alright im gonna make a trip to Fry's or Best Buy or some place and ill purchase some artic silver 5 and apply it very carefully :D

I dont think reapplying thermal paste could solve it by much, why dont you get a vga silencer ? Theyre only 20$ shipped and youre already planning on spending like 6$ on paste so yeah. ATI stock 9800 coolers are crap.

I've found blowers to cool my video cards by a few degrees, but removing the plastic shroud and putting a fan against it is more productive and effective.

well, i recently found out that my two regular fans were actually blowing air out, so i decided to flip them to blow air in. So i did so. Then it started to artifact alot. the next day i started to play agian and it was artifact city, like crazy artifacts left and right almost hte whole screen was taken over by them. Then i decided to shutdown my comp and reboot again like a minute after, i did so and this time it didn't load up xp, it was a grey screen, so i pushed hte restart button and it had the options of restarting xp in safe mode, last known good configuration etc. i picked normally and it was fine, tried to play agian but the same thing happened, crazy artifacts. Now im gonna try flipping the fans back to blow air out

Alright, I flipped the fans over again to blow inside again, and now it doesn't artifact as crazy as it used to

ok, BOTH front and back case fans are blowing inbound..?
Should be front IN and back OUT...create a flow of air that way....

Thermal dynamics apply.....

CPU HSF setup fan blows out not in towards HS

Front case fan pulls air in (cooler) this is generally the way it works

Back Case fan if any depending on your case and who made it blows out of case creating per usual average case setups a flow of air similar to the letter S.

Power Supply fans blow out the back of your case as well don't flip them over whatsoever.

Video cards fans blow out again thermal dynamics

You do not want fans to blow in on the cpu and video card simply because it will also raise your mobo temps your basically blowing the hot air from the HS back onto your components. The sticker on the fan with the name is usually the side that blows out FYI.

Not sure if I can explain this better probably could.

thanks mage that makes sense to me. Saith, what i meant was the two fans in the back of the case were blowing outwards originally then i flipped them to blow in and then flipped them to blow back out. sry its confusing, baisically trial and error. Now i am going to one day buy thermal paste and apply it.
