Swype Text Input for Screens.

Excited to try it out soon on the samsung vibrant.

Also, cool to see swype coming out to my campus (University of Washington) to show off their program.

I've been running it on my underclocked EVO since it came out. It works great but I do need to go thru the tutorials to get a better grasp of advanced techniques.

with swype i can do about 45-50 words a minute depending on the length of the words on a normal keyboard i can do more than that(90ish probably), touch texting i am maybe 30 words a minute or less

Well at the risk of being an aol using me too bot: swype is awesome, I'm posting with it right now.

Nexus One FTMFW!

If you search the xda for your phone you can find other versions of it.

Oh yeah, this is shipping on the Droid X as well..

That's what I thought; when we demoed a DroidX last week, it had Swype as one of the three input methods as shipped. My wife and I are getting our first Smartphones on Thursday... can you guess what we're getting? ;)

It's cool, but it's not exactly new (or original). There's another app called "SlideIt" that you can get from the Android app market that does the same thing. There's a free demo available, and the full app costs 5.99GBP (a little over $7USD).

My only bitch about the app isn't the application itself, rather the way the Android Market works. Unless you have a credit card that lets you use it overseas, your credit card company will deny the transaction (fraud protection).

Wait, so you have to lift your finger for it to enter the word?

I couldn't just drag a line to the space, and it keeps on going. That way i would never have to lift a finger...would be real fast, although I'm pretty fast as is on my Motorola Droid...

The world record for texting was set using Swype. They used this passage:

The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human.

The previous record the old-fashioned way was 40.92 seconds. Using Swype a guy did it in 35.54.

Just wanted to necro this thread and say I forced myself to start using swype like two days ago and now there is no looking back. Every other touchscreen keyboard is just inferior in comparison. Can also text with one hand again. :D

How accurate is it with words with double letters? How do you get it to type the second letter?

Just saw they are in fact making an iPhone version. No word yet on it's availability or if Apple will even allow it to become the default keyboard.

I thought there was an iPhone app already, but thanks to Apple's rules, all you could do was start the app, type the text, then copy it to the clipboard. Maybe I was just dreaming when I read about it,,,

Pretty confident Apple would never allow third-party replacement keyboards.

And Swype is awesome, though oddly enough I forced myself to stop constantly wiping the screen to get rid of finger grease, since a little bit of it actually makes it much easier to Swype. Go figure.

The only issue I've noticed is that you actually have to be able to spell. F7 doesn't work.

Posted from my Captivate. I just picked it up yesterday...

This is a glorious program for smart phones with large touchscreens. I have used it on various android phones and currently have a re-skinned red version of it on my Incredible..

A red version? Where?

It'll correct certain things to a degree, but yes, it requires people to know how to spell. I'm hoping it'll stem the tide of terrible spelling that's been justified by the texting generation. Pretty soon, the same people who were lobbying for ebonics to become a recognized language will be lobbying for txt as a language.

Might try the HF Mobile version. Bottom left menu.....

Ummmm, why exactly do you have to be able to spell to use Swype? Granted, you have to be somewhat intelligent enough to know the majority of letters in a word you want to use, but by no means do you have to get every letter right! Swype has a nifty little feature that allows it to "learn" as it goes, as well as its predictive capabilities are pretty damn impressive...it "asks" what word you wanted if you spell a word wrong as you are Swyping...but you can ignore this and "spell check" the entire text after completion by double tapping the message and then fix each individual word that was spelled wrong.

I have found I can go through a multiple sentence text with Swype in 2-3 times the speed as opposed to a regular on-screen keyboard or even a mechanical slide-out version. It does take a bit of geting used to...learning how to make Capital letters for names and such.

I got my Fascinate Thursday and I'm getting used to Swype overall Im not as fast I was on a qwerty but Im getting better. I actually have been using speech to text just as much or more especially if Im in a quite enough setting but swype is very impressive and quite accurate

So where does one get swipe? The beta has been closed for the past couple of months. is there a reliable source? If I google search and load I just know I'll get a trojan that spams all my contacts goat porn whilst draining my bank account..

OK found the link... be sure to watch your inboxes =X
