Exactly, man. I had a field day random trading my G-Max boosted toxtricities that I'd name something like Goan Gett.So even if you can play it on a Deck, why bother if it can't be used online?
Everyone is expecting this but you'd think Nintendo would have mentioned this. I wouldn't be shocked if Nintendo used their own upscaling for licensing reasons.DLSS4 can upscale 1080p to 4K. It could give a big boost to Switch 2 performance
On TV’s sure, but on handheld with the right optimizations I’d think the upscaling options to 1080p might do a lot just for battery life alone.DLSS4 can upscale 1080p to 4K. It could give a big boost to Switch 2 performance
Maybe they will use their own less power-less quality solution, but do they ever mention anything (or put any logo) to remove any of the aura that it is a console and not a small pc ?but you'd think Nintendo would have mentioned this
mean, I wish Nintendo would work with Apple to just allow Switch controllers to work natively on MacOS along with the fact that porting over wouldn't be world-ending since it's just ARM to ARM. That scenario is far more likely than Windows ports. However, we all know damn well Nintendo has absolutely zero reason to ever allow ports given how successful their hardware is.
I do think Nintendo may use their own. By their own, I mean it'll be based on FSR.Maybe they will use their own less power-less quality solution, but do they ever mention anything (or put any logo) to remove any of the aura that it is a console and not a small pc ?
Because Nvidia is big and popular and tiling the Switch 2 to the Nvidia brand might be extra bonus points. Also, everyone is thinking about DLSS and frame generation and how it'll benefit the Switch 2. We're all thinking this.I am not sure why they would have mentioned in any way Nvidia or any of nvidia branded words, that do not sound like them, and if we look about what Nintendo actually said about the switch 2 as of now, it is virtually nothing ? little teaser video with a release date, retro compabitility for swtich 1 controller and game, nothing else yet ?
Switch controllers work just fine in Windows and Linux. MacOS is not a modern OS. Just because Apple uses ARM doesn't mean it's easy porting games over.I mean, I wish Nintendo would work with Apple to just allow Switch controllers to work natively on MacOS along with the fact that porting over wouldn't be world-ending since it's just ARM to ARM.
Why? Because Nintendo wants to lose sales to make it Mac exclusive? That scenario is far more likely than Windows ports.
This is why Valve has moved onto Arch instead of Debian. This is less of an issue. Arch maybe the future of Linux for this reason.Gaming on MacOS has been a shitshow. Classic was fine, but Apple likes to break things in their yearly releases and game developers don't like to put sustained effort into finished products. It's the same thing with Linux gaming. It's better for everyone to release games for Windows and use Wine to run them elsewhere.
Based on FSR doesn't mean it'll be FSR. The reason maybe to avoid Nvidia licensing as I'm sure Nvidia maybe charging extra for it. Also, Nintendo may not want to depend on Nvidia stuff if they plan to switch to other hardware manufacturers in the future. Imagine having to pay for a DLSS license while the Switch 3 isn't using Nvidia hardware? Why would they be using FSR when they have access to DLSS? They will have access to DLSS 3 at most. More then likely it will be 2.
My feeling has well, not sure how closer ARM in nintendo is similar to the ARM in Apple (both will have some custom extension I would presumre), but regular PC gpu seem much closer to Nintendo (same or similar shaders language used like GLSL, Vulkan-openGL, etc...), they run something really close to an regular PC Nvidia gpu vs what going on with Apple.I don't think Macs being ARM is super useful for porting either. Game developers aren't writing tons of assembly anymore, it's all high level languages that will compile to x86 just fine. GPU similarity or not would be important if it were going to happen, but it's not.
Solid point, keeping retro-compatibility alive could be simpler, specially with their cartridge model (because as long your upscaling method use the same input going from one to the other could be simple with an update, if they were internet store only games or must have internet business model...)Imagine having to pay for a DLSS license while the Switch 3 isn't using Nvidia hardware?
Yes, but Nintendo said about nothing at all about the Switch 2 yet (it is all everyone speaking for them, their teaser is like a silent minute of camera showing the exterior, no spec, no nothing), do not remember ever talking about third party parts powering it, it would be a complete change, them not talking about it would not be strange and not a strong sign to interpret imo.Because Nvidia is big and popular and tiling the Switch 2 to the Nvidia brand might be extra bonus points. Also, everyone is thinking about DLSS and frame generation and how it'll benefit the Switch 2. We're all thinking this.
Apple makes fine hardware but the Apple Developer relations for the MacOS is a mess. They require you to jump through a lot of hoops and keep your software updated.Gaming on MacOS has been a shitshow. Classic was fine, but Apple likes to break things in their yearly releases and game developers don't like to put sustained effort into finished products. It's the same thing with Linux gaming. Nintendo allowed ports of Donkey Kong and Mario Brothers, and there were the Philips CD-I games, and some edutainment titles. Nintendo isn't going to port anything else until/unless their hardware sales fall apart. Sega dabbled in PC ports before their hardware division died, but Nintendo hasn't even done that.
WiiU/Wii most of that collection is now on Switch anyways. Not much point to emulate.Regarding Nintendo internally they need to embrace emulators, but that doesn’t mean the 3’rd party ones. Yes they have the Nintendo Virtual Console, they need to get that working all the way up to the WiiU, I’m sure they could do it. Furthermore they need USB adapters for media to go with them, cute CD drives for Wii games, cartridge readers in fun themes for the others similar to how they work with the Ambio stuff.
There is absolutely no reason why every first party Nintendo title should not be available for the virtual console for every prior console.
And yeah that will open up options for piracy, but chances are if every 1’st party title is on the virtual console the titles being pirated would filter down mostly to 3’rd party titles that Nintendo can’t sell anyways so they aren’t loosing anything.
Pirates are going to pirate no matter what they do, but if they offer easy legitimate methods for playing their titles on their hardware the number of people pirating their first party titles will decrease. As long as they aren’t dicks about it, obviously if they make it cost prohibitive or complicated the whole effort will fail. But it is 100% doable.
Yeah, but pretty sure it’s mostly first party titles would be nice for 3’rd party games not that there were many….WiiU/Wii most of that collection is now on Switch anyways. Not much point to emulate.
Problem is the controller. That's going to be very hard to emulate. Honestly, just buy a WiiU while you still can and they aren't too expensive.Yeah, but pretty sure it’s mostly first party titles would be nice for 3’rd party games not that there were many….
I did, but Nintendo already does NES, SNES, N64 and GameCube controllers for the Switch, I’m sure they could figure out something for the Wii and the WiiU.Problem is the controller. That's going to be very hard to emulate. Honestly, just buy a WiiU while you still can and they aren't too expensive.
Nintendo makes money on remastering old games. Just look at Donkey Kong Country Returns where they charge you for a game that was already released on the Wii and 3DS but charging $60 for the Switch version. There is no reason to buy the Switch version when this game can be bought for far less. Even the original Super Nintendo version is cheaper. Because I modded my Switch, I can run all those games on it. The Wii emulator is a little tricky. There is absolutely no reason why every first party Nintendo title should not be available for the virtual console for every prior console.
This is why Nintendo wouldn't allow it. Of all the Nintendo consoles ever made, the Switch is the most pirated of them all. It's fairly easy to mod a Switch or run a Switch emulator on a PC. Nintendo's portable handheld consoles were pretty good about backwards compatibility, until the 3DS which was only backwards compatible with the DS. The DSi wasn't and that didn't go well with consumers. And yeah that will open up options for piracy, but chances are if every 1’st party title is on the virtual console the titles being pirated would filter down mostly to 3’rd party titles that Nintendo can’t sell anyways so they aren’t loosing anything.
Nintendo needs bring the Virtual Console back and make it free. They can sell their remasters and remakes all day long, but the entire library of NES, SNES, and N64 era could easily fit into peoples phones without taking up noticeable space. Obviously not games that aren't owned by Nintendo, but Nintendo will never profit from these olds games. The yutes will never pay money to play these games because it's from a bygone era. For free they would, and some of them will probably pick up a Switch just to play a huge library of free but old games. You can do this with a modded Switch, Steam Deck, ROG Ally, any PC and every a RPi. You can even do it on iOS devices now. Plus, you can get young people into franchises they would never be into otherwise. The guy who made Undertale was a huge Earthbound fan. The people who made Pizza Tower were fans of Wario Land 4. Nintendo could collect data on what people like to play and try to make games based on that.Pirates are going to pirate no matter what they do, but if they offer easy legitimate methods for playing their titles on their hardware the number of people pirating their first party titles will decrease. As long as they aren’t dicks about it, obviously if they make it cost prohibitive or complicated the whole effort will fail. But it is 100% doable.
