Anyone have a problem mounting a Swiftech MCX-159 with the thru-board bolts?

The nuts that secure the screw to my board hit the base of the MCX-159 and prevent it from making good contact with the chipset core (AMD 770 chipset, Gigabyte GA-MA770-DS3 Mobo)

Have you tried rotating the cooler so it can clear that obstruction? If that doesn't do it, you'll probably have to dremel the corner a bit.

If I rotate it the other way, it hits the nut on the other side more. :)

I'm starting to wonder if those nuts are really necessary. I'm thinking they are just there to keep the screw from turning while you tighten the thumb-nuts.

I don't know why such a simple solution as dremeling the thing down didn't cross my mind. haha Thanks :)

ahhh (the ole 1 picture worth a 1000 words) damn that blows. Yep all those nuts do is keep it from spinning when you tighten the top nuts. Since I have more time than money or good sense I would just rub those nuts on a file for about 20min each and make them thinner making sure to only do one side so I could then start the threads on the side not filed and the bolt would repair the edges messed up by filing when it threaded through.
Or grind/file a bit off the base which is what I think you said.

Any who you are not doing anything wrong, it just does not fit, glad you posted cause thats a real "gotcha". Hate that crap happening when you want to get it put together and start playing.

I think I'm gonna try the base with the dremel. I thought about trying to find thinner nuts, but they are already super thin.. With my severe lack of patience, I can't see filing them down.. :D

Funny thing is, almost every review on the net with bolt mounting shows the nuts being really close if not under the base of the heatsink..

They should of really made the base of the sink smaller, and taper or step it up bigger to the 40mm that it is..
