Swapping SSD's (C300 -> 840pro)

My work computer has a ton of custom software that is a pain to setup. I had a Crucial C300 128GB drive. I just got a Samsung 840pro 256GB drive. Putting a fresh install and reinstalling all the software and incorporating the custom settings would be a nightmare. Before my C300 I had a WD black drive that I tried to switch from without re-installing by aligning the drives, etc. Didn't work and had to reformat anyway.

Is there some direction I can get on as to a method that should work? My last attempt to apply what I learned via google didn't work. I think swapping from a SSD to a SSD should be much friendlier than from a SSD to a HDD.

You want to clone the drive.

You're changing drive size which could create a problem for a novice but you can try here.

I use Acronis which has many HD options but it costs money.
 
He has a WD hard drive.

I think he can download Acronis from the WD site and use it to clone the SSD. All for free.
