I have been pondering the idea of dropping a Q6600 in my rig. I currently have an E6320. My mobo supports both.

Can I simply take the E6320 out and drop in the Q6600? Or will I need to do a clean install as well?

Just swap the CPU, go on about your business.
 
A couple of years ago, I upgraded my cpu from a dual core to a quad core without reinstalling windows. Windows was not able to detect all 4 cores. My solution at that time was to reinstall windows but I believe there is a fix that does not require a fresh windows install.
 
Thanks for the replies. If it is that easy, I think I will be on the lookout for a Q6600!
 
Since the E6320 is slightly newer than the Q6600, you probably don't need to update your BIOS either. ;)
