i am having a problem with SC crashing to desktop.
running vista 32bit, nvidia 158.18.
is this a common issue?

Did you install the newest patch from GPGNet? Some people have found the older patches to soft of "break" the game and had to reinstall it and repatch it in order for it to work correctly. Sometimes mods may also contribute to instability as well.

I just did a fresh install today, then patched thru gpg.net
every 40 minutes or so it just stops working?

Is this a new install of SC or did this problem just started occurring long after it was installed?

Been playing it on Vista 64 since day one, with all the different patches and never had a CTD. 8800GTX OC and AM2.

Perhaps try a re-install. Somthing might have borked up some data during the install.

yes this is a fresh install. I installed today.
maybe something is wrong with my hardware setup?

A: could you possibly be more vague?
B:
overclocked? back to stock and try again
temps? CPU, NB, GPU at a minimum
PSU rails good?
Any issues with other games?
New build?
proper airflow?
latest drivers?
exact specs? Some creative cards used to break the game.

Also, did you patch the game? Did you also run the game as administrator? or set it to Windows XP compatibility mode?

I don't have any other issues with games. Battlefield 2, AOE 3, COD2

temps look fine 44 c cpu.

Are you supposed to run the game as Administrator??
I've just been double clicking the short cut.

I'll try running as Admin and see what happens..

If you are going to ask for help, at least answer the questions of people who are trying to help you. To emphasize the point, more details would be a *good* thing.

44*c is great as a load temp, horrible as an idle. So which is it?
Can you run orthos for more than a couple hours without errors? Temps while doing so?

It is ok to say you have no idea what GLSauron was asking. Many of us were newbies at one time. So at least try to answer our questions net time, k? We're just trying to help but we do need a bit more info.

Don't take any of above as an assault against you, k?

Agreed. Saying you dont know and asking to clarify gets you respect for knowing what you dont know. Ignoring the people trying to help you gets you nowhere.

I love supcom. Bringing more people into the fold is a good thing. Or id have not bothered to watch this thread at all. I know Im harsh and an ass. Dont take it personally. I really do want to get you up and playing ASAP.

sorry guys, i didn't mean to "ignore" the questions. so hear goes:
the 44c is at load. i can run 2 instances of prime 95 all night(day) long.
power supply volatages look good, i can only read those thru the bios though.
as far as overclocking i am at 2.333 GHz at 1.26Vcore.
Drivers are 158.18 nvidia and mother board driver is ver 15.00 nvidia
i am using onboard audio.

I tried running as admin and in xp compat mode same problem.
I am going to try a older Vid card driver to see if that helps..

Well thats a start.

Now set everything back to stock speeds. Also, what kind of power supply do you have?

good info but no blaring issues.

You said you get CTDs at 40 minutes.

Do you get them at EVERY game that hits 40 minutes or just some of them?
Do they ever happen before 40 minutes?
If you pause the game at 1 minute does it crash 40 minutes later or no?
Play a game to 35 minutes (assuming regular as clockwork), save, play to the CTD, give it an hour to cool down, load that save and see if it crashes at 40 minutes of gametime.

I've heard people have had RAM issues with this game during long sessions, maybe you are having this problem as well?

How much ram do you have / is in use when you are playing for a long time?

That sounds like a known issue with RAM/memory allocation.
Theres some sort of semi-official patch that handles it.

OP: Look on the GPGnet forums for
"mad boris workaround"

Danny Bui: Powersupply is a Antec TruPower trio 650Watt.

GL Sauron: I really just gave a 40 minute time as a generic time.
it can crash sometimes right when i hit launch in a skirmish

MonkeyGod: I will look into this Ram issue at gpg .net forums

You guys are great helping me out inthis situation..

Does the campaign work well? Most of the missions are smaller and then scale up as you go on.

I completed all 3 campaigns with the release version, with zero problems.

Strange :(, those missions can get quite large if you play long enough... has anything helped out or are you still having problems? Do you have the latest patch? Its supposed to have some performance fixes.

The latest patch has HUGE performance enhancements.
I never had performance issues with the release version.
I only had problems when playing multiple AI opponents in a skirmish.
