Supreme Commander 2 is now $5.75 on amazon. If you have free shipping it is pretty cheap IMO for a good RTS. This is the actual disc version of the game not the digital download. This is a steamworks game.

Been 3 bucks multiple times on Steam and, imo, isn't even worth that. YMMV.

I paid 15 for a hard copy a year ago. I'd pay 50 to have it explode in one of those youtube tech demolition videos.

Great game in Co-op!

Probably should not have used the name "Supreme Commander", but still a very fun game in MP.

Fun game, but I remember having it back in the day, and the fucker just would never uninstall from list of installed programs. Yeah I know how to circumvent it, but it's a pain.

Luckily I played the demo first so I never bought it but i would also pay to see it destroyed. I think i read an interview with the devs in pc gamer where they pretty much admitted to destroying supcom (both graphical and game play wise) to make it more accessible to newbs and hopefully sell more copies,

It's worth $6. They did change the economy and tech system from SupCom 1, but it's still fun IMO. Played a lot of SupCom2, SupCom 1/FA, and Total Annihilation back in the day.

+11ty

So sad. SC:FA is still one of my most played games.

I got this as a free gift for completing one of the Steam Christmas sale challenges. I haven't even accepted it yet. It's still in my inventory as a gift.

Wow, lot of hate in here for this game. I wonder how many of you guys actually put in the time to give it a fair shot? I've played it for hours and I think it's fun. Not as good as SupCom, and definitely not the same in terms of economy and tech, but it's fun to not be locked into a 2 hour game, sometimes (which is what SupCom tends to force on you). Graphics are pretty good and the gameplay is smooth. I think I only paid $3.75 or something on a sale, but I'd buy it again for $6 in a heartbeat.

One thing to keep in mind is that there is also DLC for the game, which adds maps and units. Doesn't appear to be included at this price.

I'll try not to bash on SupCom 2 too much here (and yes, I did at least try to give it a chance), but here's my opinion:

That "you're locked into two hour games" is one piece of the epic scale and complexity that made the original game so great. If you take away from Supreme Commander what made it Supreme Commander, you're left with a much more normal RTS game and little to no compelling reason to devote your time (much less your money) to it over the myriad of better games out there.

That's just my feeling, and definitely my impression of how SupCom 2 felt.

I don't know what "myriad of better RTS games" is out there, really (modern ones, anyway, there are plenty of old ones that are good if you don't care at all about graphics) but IMO it's still a good game.

You are correct, though, it doesn't feel quite the same as the first game, so if you are expecting a direct sequel that is not the case. But on its own I think it's a fine RTS. Plus, for $6, what else can you get that is comparable or better?

It's all subjective. I really like it, and I found plenty of others who played it regularly to have full 8-player matches.

You can go back six years and still find RTS games that look pretty good for what they are, IMO. The genre might not be the most prevalent in terms of both quality and quantity, but there's enough good stuff out there to keep someone occupied.

Heck, I still play Age of Empires III, and I saw that on sale for 10 cents a while back. I don't know what exactly you can buy for $6 at this moment, but even at that cheap I would recommend people try the demo first.

You're right, everything is subjective, otherwise I'm not entirely sure what our opinions are for. This just happens to be mine. ;)

Oh yeah, forgot to add the DLC is much better for multiplayer.

According to Steam I have 261 hours played. The only thing I've even done is co-op with my friends. For 5 bucks I think it's a great deal. There are a few VERY stupid issues with it though.

No "Pause" in multiplayer (unless I'm very wrong). - how the hell can you leave out a pause feature??? Actually it shouldn't be listed as a "feature", it should be a standard.

No saving in multiplayer. No autosaves or manual ones. Again, stupid.

In both these cases I'm talking about me and my friend playing against the computer. It's not like I'm playing some random dude over the internet and want to pause it on him constantly.

No user made or customizable maps. You got what it gives you.

There's probably a few other things, but that's off the top of my head.

Game is a total piece of crap. I bought it on release for $50 expecting to spend the next 3 years of my life playing the hell out of it. Steam says I have 4 hours played. It will never be installed again. It's in my folder labeled "junk".

Just Get SupCom 1.

The demo isn't even the same game. Since the demo that game has been patched up the ass.

If you have never played a Supcom game before, Supcom 2 will be a good game for you.

If you are a Supcom fanboy, this game will suck. Especially if all you have played was the demo.

If you are an RTS fan, not Supcom 1 fanboy, you will like this game.

I'd say that's a perfect way to put it.

I played 2 and then played the original, I thought the original sucked. I'm sure I would have thought the exact opposite if I played them in reverse order.

Supcom 2 is probably a good game for someone new to RTS's to cut their teeth on, not a lot of depth, but good for casual gaming. Where Supcom 1 is a bit more hardcore (at least that's the way I see it).

Pretty much. And saving isn't an issue IMO because the game is more geared toward fast-paced games that take like 45 minutes or less rather than long-ass 2+ hour games.

TA/SC was never ever in a million billion trillion quadrillion zillion years intended for casual gamers. If Valve designed Half-Life 3 as a light gun rail shooter ala House of the Dead people would be pretty pissed off, regardless of how good a light gun game it was.
