Super Micro 6016T-URF Dual Xeon Quad-Core L5520 $639.99

The dual L5520 are around 60W each (120W for 8 cores/16 logical)

You can upgrade to a L5640 at 60W each (120W for 12 cores/24 logical)

Or dual L5630 at 40W each (80W for 8 cores/16 logical total)

Problem here is you're putting new money into CPU's that are about 4 years old. Less than stellar performance-per-dollar and performance-per-watt by current standards.

Evertek.com is the wholesale side of Geeks.com, the server is listed over there @ $615.00 Qty 1 and $599.88 Qty 2+. They also have a dual L5320 Quad Super Micro system with 24GB of RAM for $295.00

Was thinking something similar. Big difference is that if you try to colo these you can get most of the CPU performance from a Xeon E3-1240 V2 and still fit within a 1A @ 110 or 120v fairly easily.

With six DIMMs and two 60w 45nm CPUs, would be hard. With fans cooling the 120w CPUs + DIMMs + a 1TB drive and PSU loss you are probably right around 2A @ 110v-120v, maybe over.

Very capable system though.

Awesome tip. Got three of these cheap machines and saved $100!

Going to use this for a CI build farm. :)
