Suggestions for mounting

I buckled and bought another 805 combo from Fry's again. Damn it!! Now I have a new system but no real good way to mount it in the server rack. I have 2U server shelves seen here.

I use the "Enclosed Border Orientation" as shown in the pictures. Mounting the hard drive and power supply have never been an issue. Mounting the mobo was something of fun. I usually took an old, piece of junk crap case and ripped it to shreds. I only took the back plate for the motherboard before pitching the rest of the case. Now I am out of crap cases and no real good way of mounting the motherboard. I am looking for suggestions (other than tap the case for the standoffs) for getting this going. Anyone?
 
wait for one of the free after rebate SVC or Frys cases and cannibalize it? Those combos are hard to pass up, the two times i've been there i've picked one up each time. what kind of Oc's have you gotten on it? with stock cooling i can't pass 2.9 on one and i'll try the other once my liquid cooling system comes in.
 
My first one got to 2.8. Anything past that and I loose the video. Probably would do better with a vid card. Trying to stay cheap and SFF if possible. I just got home with the new one though. I have a p4 2.4 that I owe my brother, but the RAM is mine. Probably could get rid of the board after this upgrade.

I hate waiting on the rebates. I just sent out 2 for cooler master, which in the past have been pretty quick. Dlink is still dicking around with me. I just need to get these systems positioned for the new core upgrades that will happen this year.

This was during test fitting so no the switch isn't populated yet, the router isn't mounted, the cable modem isn't installed, and the incubator hasn't been modified.
 
It looks like you using all 4 posts for that load. I do not have that option on mine.

I am guessing that is the new [H] power supply test setup? (+1 for being obvious)

Any suggestions where I can get a crap case this day and age?
 
Wow, a genuine Variac, I’d bet between us we have the only two out of almost everyone in the forum. A very nifty useful tool indeed, I never install a new PSU without using that first.;)
 
I ended up just screwing the standoffs and bolts to the mobo to give it legs. Then, I put that non-static stuff that usually comes on the back on the motherboard underneath. It's working just fine. Need a bigger hard drive though.

I would bet knowing you there is a difference though. Your varaic is a Staco, this one isn't unfortunately.

Um...I'd suggest you not use that anti-static foam. It's anti-static because it's conductive. You're lucky that nothing's happened so far.

You might consider getting some plastic standoffs. They just push through the MB screw holes from the back. I bought some a few years ago at CompUSA. I don't know where else you could find them, though. Another option would be to get a piece of 1/4" MDF from your local hardware store, cut it to the exact inside dimensions of the shelf (so it sits securely inside), drill a few holes, and screw brass standoffs into it. That way it would be easy to mount all the hardware to the MDF, then drop it into the shelf.

You should be fine using just the standoffs to elevate the board. For the Hanging Garden, I used them and close end standoffs and JB Quick to secure them to the tray. One thing with the Gruber tray is it's power coated and the JB doesn't stick well, but a quick Dremeling fixed that.

Mounting the mobo to the standoffs and screw them down. I drilled the side of the tray to hold the power supply to keep it from sliding around.

Hang em in the rack and you're good to go. Those trays are rated to 50 lbs. so you shouldn't have a problem with weight using 2 posts / rails.

in most cases the standoffs connect directly to the case, which is conductive and usually grounded via the PSU chassis. standoffs on metal is fine. There are solder spots on the back of the mobo that should not touch conductive stuff.

That's all well and good--the mounting holes are often themselves connected to the motherboard ground plane. My concern is with all the other solder points on the bottom of the motherboard. If they're touching the anti-static foam, you're asking for trouble.
