My birthday is coming up in mid-May, and my parents have agreed to help my upgrade my computer a bit as a present. The total budget is around $260 -$300 (using some of my own $ as well), and I am debating what do get. I have it narrowed down to a few basic configurations.

1) Aspire X-Qpack + MSI mATX s754 mobo (forget the name right now) + Coolermaster Aquagate Mini OR 1GB stick PQI Turbo OR PC P&C 470 Silencer psu OR HP Lightscribe DVD Dual Layer +- burner with 1 pack CD-Rs, and 1 pack DVD-Rs.

2) New case (approx $80) + two of Aquagate Mini/1GB RAM/PSU/Lightsribe

3) May be able to strech for a s754 3700+ Clawhammer

Any other suggestions, or which one of these?

I used to overclock, but I figured all the trouble I was going through and all the money I was spending just wasn't worth it anymore. If I want to overclock later, I can always use a RAM divider.

I do a little bit of everything on this computer, but primarily gaming (mostly WoW)

The only reservations I have about getting a DVD burner, is that I don't know how much I would use it. I don't burn many music, and the only thing I could think of to use it for is backing up my date before a reformat, which I usually do on a spare 12GB hard drive (most stuff is disposable save game saves and pictures).

Anything else? Since all the things are within $20-$30 of each other, I can get three of the things I listed.

I would drop money on 2 gigs of ram, sell your old ram, then get that DVD burner.

Anybody else think I could get $100 or so for this stick of Patroit TCCD? I may have done a 10Mhz overclock for 5 minutes or so, but other than that is has been stock. If I could, that would add an additional thing that I could get to the list.

Your PC is great...except the RAM.

MX1000 Laser Mouse?

SpeedLink 5.1 Headphones?

I got an MX1000 already. Don't use/need 5.1 headphones; I have 5.1 speakers.

I guess I could always ask them for my birthday present to be $200 or so towards the cost of my video card. I still owe my day around $375 from the loan he gave me, and paying $45 a month would take me till feburary.

Get the 3700+, sell your current CPU, buy more RAM with money from CPU sale.

Can't, need to save all old parts for my dad. When I upgrade, we are going to take the parts and use them for a computer for him.
