Hi all - I currently have 2 Rokit RP5 studio monitors and an X-Fi Xtreme Music and want to get a sub. I ordered the KRK 10s sub from musicians friend but the order got lost in delivery and now I'm gonna ask for advice to what I should get.

I actually don't do any mixing or anything but for me the rp5's have been fine for listening, however they do lack the heavy low end (I listen to a lot of D&B music). I tried using my dad's Energy S12.3 but it doesn't have RCA outputs, only way I could use it was to set my soundcard for 4.1 setup but then in games some sounds would get distorted because of no center channel (was still awesome to use tho:p)

So can anyone recommend a sub for use in a 2.1 setup that has outputs.

If it matters I am in the corner of my (large) basement on carpet over concrete, and I have done nothing for sound treatment and probably won't in the near future other than easy things.

Get a T-amp for your speakers (make sure to get an AC adaptor for it). Get a Dayton SUB80 ($80) or SUB100 ($105). All available from www.partsexpress.com

An x-sub from www.av123.com is one quality step above, with the increased price to go with it. $200

what would the t-amp do for me? also should add I can spend around 300$ or maybe more if needed.

This hardcore sub aficionado was kind enough to purchase all of these subs and do our homework for us: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=9164136#post9164136

The elemental designs A2-300, bic h-100 and av123 X-sub seem to be right in your pricerange.

For the ED A2-300 check edesignaudio.com for more info. The x-sub can be found at av123.com. And the Bic H-100 can be purchased from two authorized dealers on ebay, they accept "best offers" of $200 + $39 shipping.

From what I understood, I thought he needed the sub to power them, hence his complaining about his fathers sub not having connections or something. But his pic didn't work. Perhaps I misunderstood.

Also, do not buy eD

a used svs pb10 will make eyes water in a bedroom. the oix x-sub in my next gaming rig perchase. bic-100 has a huge fallowing. i did not like the sound of the dayton but you may so give it a look.

ED's had some dud drivers with their car audio stuff, but their home theater subwoofers seem to enjoy a much better reputation. The guys at AVS can't seem to stop drooling all over their HT subs, and their biggest drawback seems to be the long wait time for delivery.

The guys at AVS don't care about their reputation. I do. If you don't, order them. I won't stop you. Just trying to make sure you guys know. The shattering A series is not their only problem. They are a shady company to deal with. They've screwed over no less than 2 build houses (TC Sounds and Tang Band)

Thats funny, i think AVS forum members would care about reputation if their subs came defective, and there's tons and tons of posts about ED HT subs there, and 99% of them positive (i'm generalizing and rounding off obviously).

Edit: thanks for the edit and clarification ;), just a heads up though, there's a lot of he-said she-said in the car audio biz, all of that crazy gossip...who is to be believed? edit: i guess we'll find out sooner or later

both audiogon and ebay. i have seen them go for just under $300. for that price you cant go wrong without the diy rout. although that of course is not the easy path. it took me 6 months to collect my speakers from various third parties. found one in craigslist but i live in san diego.

for me the x-sub is the right fit in my gaming rig. out side of that i have no use for their other sub offerings... pb12 is enough for me. then i am working on the pc13 for bedroom duty, pb12 in the living room.
