Subnautica 2

I hope this crushes. The first one was one of the best games ever made IMO. A perfect blend of sci-fi, exploration, crafting and sheer horror. I still remember crafting my fist sea moth and realizing that I'd just entirely changed the gameplay loop. It was a since of accomplishment that has been hard to match since.

I just can't not be an early tester for this. If you own the first two you can get it at 10% off in the bundle for $26.99. Pre-loading now, only 12.9gb but using hotel internet so I need to.

I can't be a tester for it because of how much I enjoyed the magic of discovery in the first one, so I don't want to play it until it is done :O

Probably the right move. I was an early adopter of the last two though and had fun playing them multiple times through each major update. Just expect to wait 2-3 years for 1.0.

I'm waiting to see how it goes on day one at least but I will probably buckle and buy it tomorrow or Friday.

I do. It is one I'm not going to rush in to because even though I'm excited about it, like I said that thrill of discovery particularly in the first one was just amazing. So long as its ratings are good, I plan to go in to it blind when it finally comes out. I'll likely be noping out of this thread soon.

There aren't a lot of games that really nail that feeling for me, but boy did they.

For me, it's going to come down to how much content there is for the asking price of $30. Buying it at face value was never an option. I guess the danger here, as always, is spoilers. If I start watching streams, well then that's less "discovery" when I do play it. Ideally, I'd rather play it first time when it's done. But EA is a contradiction.

For some, FOMO is enough to get them to buy it. Or they just need their fix.

According to Steam, I put 130 hours into the first game. But that game took YEARS of EA to come out, and I was an early adopter. I played through the game three times, with the first two technically being partial playthroughs. The final iteration is the only one that anyone remembers.

For me, I enjoyed the discovery so much I'm ok with a very short game. I can enjoy short curated experiences, as well as lengthy open ones.

It’s $26 if you already own the prior two. For $26 it’s easily worth it. They can have my money. Personally, they can have it because I put thousands of hours into natural selection mod and they deserve everything for that game.

I’ve put a couple hours into it and it’s pretty good so far, way better than below zero. Has some cool new mechanics. I’ll likely put it down though at this point until full release whenever that will be.

Just put in a couple hours, definitely liking what I'm seeing so far, feels very similar to the first one.

Same, not bad so far. Actually is playable at 1080p, 60fps on a 4790k with a 2060S.

I've only played on my laptop so far (and in balanced mode, just runs way cooler) and have landed on DLSS quality, no FG, and high settings to get ~70fps average. I feel like with how it looks I should be able to achieve that without the use of upscaling. I tried ultra settings and it cut the framerate in half, not complaining though, looks good and runs ok.

Not sure if it's a realistic expectation or not but I hope we get some HDR implementation at some point, a game like this would benefit from it more than many.

It would be nice if they put on e in natively but I've been amazed at how good of a job RenoDX can do, particularly if someone tunes it for a given game.

Based on what I'm hearing/seeing, after two days people are already running out of interesting things to do outside of (re)building your base. You can't build any vehicles bigger than a Tadpole, and with only 2 out of the 10 claimed regions available at launch exploration is rather limited. So, once you've exhausted what story there is you're left with resource grind and base building.

Game seems more like a demo right now. But it's sold 2 million copies already, so cha-ching!

Ah. Thats a bit less than I was hoping for but early access I guess.. Interested in coop and it seems like waiting for some more time in the oven before purchasing seems prudent.
