Stupid, stupid idea for a case....
As for the CHL/Open carry debate... I really wonder how much this whole "gun rights" thing has contributed to the police viewpoint of citizens. Being born in 1976 and growing up in OK, I can't think of a single instance of seeing anyone other than police with guns in public all the way through my college years (2000). It honestly wasn't until I moved to Texas that I started hearing about CHL stuff.. and it has just continued to escalate across the US since then. Violent crimes and murder appear to be down compared to say mid-1980's, but we have even more people clamoring for the right to carry weapons at all times.
It made things so much simpler... if you had a gun either you were a police officer, military personel, or.. someone to stay away from. Cops didn't have to worry about if you had a reason for that weapon.. you didn't. You didn't have to worry about getting shot for having a weapon.. because you didn't.
Sorry.. I don't care where I am but if I see someone with a gun that isn't in uniform... I'm going to be nervous and find a way to leave that environment as soon as possible. However, that's because of how I was raised (guns are for hunting, any other use just doesn't make sense outside of law enforcement). Out on the street, that's why we have police... but I was also raised to always respect officers and follow all orders. The idea of talking back (even if you know they are wrong) goes against every believe I was raised with. I've been stopped and ticketed for failing to obey stop signs even when I did.. no argument. Stopped for speeding when I wasn't.. accept it and move on. It's not my place to argue or resist a police officer, that's why there is a justice system to argue perceived wrongs.
